This is very sad day. I remember signing a petition about not to cut NPR that was addressed to Congress. The petition must have been thrown in the trash, again.

This is not expected to pass the Senate.

The bill passed 228-192 in a sharply partisan vote. Most Republicans backed the measure while every Democrat opposed it.

... it is believed to have little chance of clearing the Democratic-controlled Senate.

This is what the GOP "thinks":
NPR's listeners are largely "wealthy" and "well educated," claimed Rep.
Marsha Blackburn, R-Tennessee. "It is time for us to remove the federal
support system ... and see what NPR can do on (its) own."
That's a crock and they are basing this "wealthy" on what exactly?

I sure as hell ain't wealthy but educated. I am not sure what the strategy is for this statement but basically we (the 98% of Americans) are not wealthy and "educated"?

==========

The GOP has launched an "ideological crusade against balanced news," claimed Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Texas.

This is why we need it:

"Biased? No. Unbiased," said Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas. "NPR
speaks the truth. ... It provides a fair and balanced presentation."

Happily this won't get 60 votes in the Senate.

The Repubs & Bludogs are against anything that doesn't fill the corporate coffers. Evil or Very Mad
