You are so right Tresa! We really should have all our suppliers here in America anyway so that we dont ever have to depend on other countries when something like this happens.

We just bailed out the auto companies and they were starting to hire again and now this. Will this ruin the auto companies again? I hope not!

Maybe our government and big companies will learn something from this and bring back our jobs to America soon.

If GM had an American supplier the 900 GM workers that were laid off yesterday in Shreveport Louisiana would still be working.

900 - Ouch!

I imagine that when they do get up and running again, all 900 will not be returning to work. Watch and see.

I have had the same thoughts- only I look at the situation as a way that American Workers can once again step up to the plate and help our international neighbors, and not so much that we can profit from their misery.
Everyone should continue to search for products "Made in America"- sometimes you really have to look, but they CAN be found in almost all cases. Just yesterday, I did some shopping at my local dollar store, loking for water bottles for my grandkids. I actually found some neat little 18 oz. bottles that had "made in the U.S.A." stickers on them, and also are BPA free! And only 99 cents each! Kaching!

Speaking as a procurement professional, every item should have a back-up supplier, especially when you are doing with shutting down a production line. That is just dumb on their part and it has costs people their jobs. ( I am a big GM fan -of their cars, not always their management) If I were in charge of supply chain operations at one of the big 3, I would have a team working on sourcing AMERICAN made parts for the one bought off shore. I'm sure some changes could be made while keeping the costs low. They have tremendous buying power.

Especially since Hershey moved the last plant to Mexico. I dearly love a Hershey bar but refuse to buy them now.

Good to know Russell Stover is made in America.
