Democrats Excoriate Rep. Sean Duffy For 'Struggle on Congressional Salary'
Our politicians regardless dems or reps are living in a bubble, they have no idea how millions of unemployed are living on a few dollars. When Rep. Duffy was asked at a town meeting, as far as cutting his own salary, Duffy responded by saying that he supports across-the-board cuts for all public employees. He makes $174,000 a year salary and he is struggling. What the? How many 99ers can we feed for that amount? Someday these politicians will get a rude awakening.

Dems excoriate Rep. Sean Duffy for ‘struggle’ on Congressional salary

Democrats and liberal websites are trying to paint Wisconsin Republican Rep. Sean Duffy as out of touch after the lawmaker--and former Real World cast member--claimed to be struggling on his $174,000 a year salary.
"Poor Hollywood Sean Duffy. He only makes four times the median family income in Wisconsin," state Democratic party chairman Mike Tate said in a statement Tuesday. "Has Sean Duffy ever been in the Real World?" asked liberal site Blogging Blue.
Outrage on the left this week was sparked by reports Duffy had complained at a town hall meeting that he has to "drive a used minivan," pays too much for health care, has "more debt than all of you" and struggles to pay his bills--all on $174,000 a year.
A constituent pointed out that $174,000 is three times his own salary.
Duffy said he resigned as Ashland County District Attorney before campaigning for seven months during which time he collected no paycheck. But the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee says that's not so. "He took a taxpayer funded salary as District Attorney for the majority of [his] campaign for Congress," the committee said in a release Tuesday. Additionally, "Duffy reimbursed himself over ten thousand dollars for everything from mileage to miscellaneous expense" while on the campaign trail, the DCCC claims.
But OpenSecrets deems Duffy's minimum net worth at $-837,984 and his maximum net worth at $2,995. Duffy's personal financial disclosure statement filed in May 2010 revealed he and his wife, author Rachel Campos-Duffy, earned $154,000 in 2009 and in the first half of 2010, Duffy and his wife reported earning $35,200. His reported liabilities total between $430,005 to $950,000. Duffy is due to file his next financial disclosure in May of this year.
Duffy has made personal belt-tightening moves in Washington. He's one of several members who have decided to sleep in their offices--a decision he said was based on cost, but also helps prompt him to be at home in Wisconsin.
A Duffy aide told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Tuesday that the congressman wasn't complaining, he was relating to his constituents.
"Our nation faces a real fiscal crisis and Congressman Duffy is committed to working with his colleagues in the House to face these challenges head on, not score cheap political points," Duffy spokesman Daniel Son told the newspaper.
As far as cutting his own salary (proposals for which are currently being offered in Congress) Duffy responded by saying that he supports across-the-board cuts for all public employees.

Congressman Tells Constituents He is 'Struggling' On $174K Salary
(CANVAS STAFF REPORTS) - A congressman from Wisconsin told residents last month that he isn't "living high on the hog" on his $174,000 salary, drawing wrath in a state locked in a dispute about public employee wages and benefits.

They are such hypocrites. They want to cut all of their state workers' pay that make way less than that but, they refuse to even consider cutting theirs. If he thinks he's struggling on $174,000, then what does he think everyone else is doing?

If his struggling, what would it be for for the millions of people who make minimum wage which is more than 10 times less.

I know right? It was very irresponsible for him to make that statement and now he is opening mouth, inserting foot. Some people live way beyond their means these days. What a jackarse. Most wish they made that kind of money.

The WI GOP is trying to remove this video from the internet. I guess they don't want people to see Duffy complain about his "low salary".
Another Wisconsin Controversy: Local GOP Stifling Duffy's Salary Remarks
"Republicans in Wisconsin's Polk County are working tirelessly to remove a video that shows Rep. Sean Duffy, R-Wis., fussing at a town hall about having to pinch pennies on a $174,000 annual salary."

A bit off topic not a congressman but a school superintendent in NJ is quitting to take a job in NY because Gov. Christie wants to cut his salary as well as other supers. He makes 233,000/yr in NJ will make 237,000/yr in NY AND will collect NJ pension of 11,600/month, yes per month when he retires. Come on this is a classic example of haves and have nots. It made me so mad I could not finish reading the article.

At least they have somewhere to sleep, more than the homeless have right now, including many US war veterans. it's a disgrace.

I misread this as "blow-up mistresses." Better than live interns, I guess.
