Lawmaker Suggests Employees Help Pay For Unemployment Benefits

Facing a nearly $1 billion unemployment debt, the state of South Carolina is scrambling to find ways to pay those without jobs.
One idea that’s being tossed around by a state lawmaker is making employees pay a fee anywhere from $4-10 per month.
Currently, just employers pay into the unemployment insurance fund, but State Rep. Mike Anthony (D-Spartanburg/Union) says if people want unemployment benefits, they should be willing to help pay for it.
