I know if given a choice between say $75,000 for a piece of jewelry and feeding ten families for a year or more...
The choice is simple its jewelry everytime...thankyou republican lawmakers!!
The jewels are imported so we can't forget the workers in near slave like jobs working in the mine at about 140 degree heat...
Then there is the Diamond Cartel making artificially high profits because they control the entire Industry (Debeers)

So much for 'shared sacrifice'....
Re: Poll: Rich Will Drastically Increase Luxury Spending This Year
I think that I am becoming very cynical and jaded as a result of being unemployed and miserable for so many years. Some of the thoughts like hell, terrorists and wealthy combined in one sentence would have never crossed my mind before.

Re: Poll: Rich Will Drastically Increase Luxury Spending This Year
My gf reminded me to post that Gates & Buffett got 38 of the 400 US billionaires to donate half their wealth for charitable purposes.....
40 out of 400 joined the team.....the other 360 declined to participate.
Many of them said things like 'can't talk now running for a plane!!'
Others kept Gates & Buffett on the phone for hours making complex arguments in favor of inherited wealth. For their Trust Fund babies.
I'm *NOT* saying that the 360 reluctant billionaires should be compelled to donate half their wealth. That's the opposite of the concept of making a donation. One tithes as a spiritual obligation.

I'm just saying that the fact that Gates & Buffett couldn't convince at least *half* of the 400 billionaires is a sad sad sign of the times.....Give to Caesar what is Caesar's. Give to God what is God's.

But remember the GOP will say the rich spending money will be job creators..... I know Boonie this article made me cringe that it is so important to let the world know the rich people are back.... Guess because they all felt luxury spending last year was in bad taste because the little people were suffering they didn't want to appear cruel, but now that the FED says the economy is fine it's time for their suffering to end, time to shop till you drop......

I am not opposed to people "having nice things" I understand the desire for such things is a motivational incentive for most..
1) CEO make hundreds of times the amount of average worker...
They wouldn't put as much effort into their job for 20-30 times the average???They need 50 million a year? wont work for 3 million, really??
Tax the He** out of anything over the 2-3 million...
2) After one has accumulated 10-20 million, just how much better is more and more stuff???
Does the Gold plated $750,000 car arrive you at a destination ten times better than a $75,000 luxury vehicle??

It's no surprise to me that the wealthy can afford more luxury purchases. What saddens me is the working class people who have bought into the idea of "shared sacrifice". They are willing to sacrifice for a greater good, which is admirable, but what they don't realize is that while they are sacrificing some of the basics in life, the "other half" is having an even easier time.

And getting some great deals, b/c the economy is in the drink.
Other Half=top 2%

You're absolutely correct regarding the top 2%. It's really pretty sad exactly where this country is heading right now. There are so many bad things going on it's hard to know where to start. Please see the WI/MI thread for the latest on MI. I'm surprised that people aren't more up in arms about that one.
Thread jack over.

Re: Poll: Rich Will Drastically Increase Luxury Spending This Year
My husband worked many years hard labor for "Shaw Industries" which in 2001 was sold to Berkshire Hathaway INC. which is a holding Co. for Investor Warren Buffet. He closed my husbands plant down in 2008 saying in a meeting that it was a load off his shoulders. He also closed many plants of the same throughout GA, Tn, and Al. Which is what caused my hubby to lose his job through no fault of his own. I have no heart for that man. He left only a handful of plants open and operating. This plant served a bit over 400 county wide residence. He didn't have to, he wasn't in the hole. The plant was making him loads of money, just not boat loads. Greedy *******.
