Superhero capes for the unemployed? Really?
Superhero capes for the unemployed? Really?
If you're an unemployed resident in central Florida, your local
workforce agency wants to give you a superhero cape and a chance to win a
$1,000 prize package. All you have to do is take the "Cape-A-Bility Challenge."
To get your cape, you must do one of the following: take the What Superhero Are You Quiz on Facebook, become a fan of Workforce Central Florida
on Facebook, tweet a job posting from the WCF, recommend someone on
LinkedIn with the word Super or get a photo of you with a foam cutout of
Dr Evil Unemployment.
Can't possibly be true, you think? Well, it is. Another thing ... this $73,000 campaign is being funded by tax payer dollars!
The Orlando Sentinel reports
that Florida labor officials have asked their inspector general to
investigate why the agency is spending public money on the campaign.
According to the Sentinel, the campaign was met with derision by
many of the state's unemployed, who say it minimizes the severity of the
unemployment problem.

Dumb idea? You think. Many taxpayers complain about the unemployed receiving money but they don't complain about the capes for the unemployed which came out of their pockets. Idiots.
