I am having a feeling that these numbers are jumping up because some states extended benefits for 99ers. I remember reading something about that on the forums a couple of weeks back.

I am not sure what you are referring too.....but i copied this from the CT dol......99 weeks is the maximum amount of benefits in CT......

"Due to the most recent extension to the Emergency Unemployment Compensation program, signed by the President on December 17, 2010, the eligibility has been extended to January 3, 2012, and weekly payment will end June 9, 2012.

  • UI claimants may receive a maximum entitlement of up to ninety-nine (99) weeks of total UI benefits (Combination of Regular “State” UI Benefits, Emergency Unemployment Compensation Benefits, Extended Benefits (“EB”) and High Extended Benefits (“HEB”)).

  • This EUC extension does NOT apply to individuals who have previously received their maximum entitlement (up to 99 weeks of total UI benefits)"

That bill is to keep paying Extended Benefits, many states have had to pass legislation that allows them to use a three year lookback instead of the normal two year lookback-when it comes to paying extended benefits.
In other words if this legislation passes unemployed can continue to collect EB until they reach max weeks for that state.

That is why we are all fighting so hard to get HR 589 passed, it will add weeks to tier one benefitting ALL 99 ers.

HR589 would benefit all the unemployed that have exhausted their benefits regardless on what their state's unemployment rate is

Somebody posted it as a 99er link on another forum and I took it for what it was.

I posted the link here to that post but i guess someone deleted it. Basically people were going on about how it was meant for the 99ers. I guess they were wrong.

Those figures are really disturbing.....Only 27 percent of people are looking for a job.....I don't believe it.......

That question is phrased wrong. Are you looking for a job?

That should be "Are you unemployed?".

I have plenty of friends who are employed but still looking for a better job. They would probably answer yes in that poll.

There seems to be some confusion for bill 638 in oregon.

They just passed some unemployment bill there. Some people are saying it includes 6 weeks for 99ers in oregon.

Oregon ppl might wanna check it out.

If you are confused about the Oregon bill it is very easy to google Oregon Bill 638 and get the info on it:

Post by hello Wed Apr 20, 2011 4:48 am

Heres what my research reveeled. The second link is the unemployment office in oregoon saying that the SECOND bill, 638 AKA "OEB 3" can only be claimed by people who exhausted all other benefit extensions and first filed a claim in 2008.

I am just saying people shoould ask for clarification. I would if I lived in oregon.

http://www.ktvz.com/news/27266906/detail.html

"Lawmakers also approved a separate measure giving six additional weeks
of state-funded unemployment to about 15,000 workers who first drew
unemployment in 2008 and have used up all federal benefits"

http://www.oregon.gov/EMPLOY/UI/extensions_overview_12-16-08.shtml

"OEB-3 provides 23% of your regular claim’s maximum benefit amount. The
weekly benefit amount is the same as your regular claim. OEB-3 starts
with the week of April 17-23, 2011, and ends July 2, 2011, or when the
money allocated to the program runs out. The Oregon
state legislature has allocated $30 million for the payment of all OEB-3
claims; therefore, your benefits could stop before you receive the
maximum amount of your OEB-3 claim
.

OEB-3 is precluded by any regular, EUC or EB benefit eligibility. In
other words, OEB-3 cannot be paid until all other benefit programs are
exhausted. However, unlike EB and EUC, OEB-3 does not require base year
wages of 40 times your weekly benefit amount. Therefore, claimants who
exhaust regular benefits, and don’t qualify for EUC or EB, may qualify
for OEB-3."

6000 Jobs Lost - CT Unemployment Rate Increases to 9.1 Empty Re: 6000 Jobs Lost - CT Unemployment Rate Increases to 9.1

Post by hello Wed Apr 20, 2011 6:23 am

From: http://www.oregon.gov/EMPLOY/UI/extensions_overview_12-16-08.shtml#EUC_Tier_4_Details

Overview

There are currently three benefit extensions available.

EB

  • EB provides an additional 13* weeks of additional benefits to claims that expire after May 1, 2007.

  • *High EB expanded EB from 13 to 20 weeks of benefits starting February 15, 2009.

EUC

  • EUC Tier 1 provides up to 20 weeks of additional benefits to
claimants exhausting regular benefits, or whose regular claim expired
after May 1, 2007. The last week to apply for EUC Tier 1 benefits is
    the week of December 25 - 31, 2011.

  • EUC Tier 2 provides up to 14* weeks of additional benefits to
claimants who exhaust Tier 1 benefits with the payment of the week
    December 25 - 31, 2011 or before.

  • EUC Tier 3 provides up to 13 weeks of additional benefits to
claimants who exhaust Tier 2 benefits with the payment of the week
    December 25 - 31, 2011 or before.

  • EUC Tier 4 provides up to 6 weeks of additional benefits to
claimants who exhaust Tier 3 benefits with the payment of the week
    December 25 - 31, 2011 or before.

OEB-3

  • OEB-3 provides between 1 and 6 additional weeks of benefits to
individuals who have used up all other available benefits. OEB-3 begins
with payment for the week of April 17-23, 2011.
Adds upto 105 weeks. Weird.
