Free Classes for the Unemployed in Montana
Dated: May 17, 2011
"Free classes are planned May 23-27 in Butte and Anaconda, geared toward unemployed or underemployed people, which would certify them to work on area reclamation projects.
A few spots are available in the Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response Standard, or HAZWOPER, certification classes.
Matt Vincent of the Clark Fork Watershed Education Program said the 40-hour classes usually cost applicants upward of $500. The classes are required by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration for much of the area's Superfund work.
The classes are sponsored by the Montana Department of Labor in order to help the economies of Butte-Silver Bow, Anaconda-Deer Lodge, Granite and Powell counties benefit from the Superfund projects.
The Clark Fork Watershed Education Program, Clark Fork Coalition and Montana state Sen. Jon Sesso, D-Butte, helped organize the free class.
Reservations are required. For details, call the Butte Job Service at 494-0300 or the Anaconda Job Service at 563-3444.
Reporter Tim Trainor may be reached via e-mail at tim.trainor@lee.net or call 496-5519."
