Let's face it - the ones that will suffer from this are the poor! Republican Governors want more control on who qualifies for Medicaid- and it won't be lowering the qualifications. I hadn't thought of it before, but they are messing around with Medicaid already - for example, that new law that says Medicaid funding can't be used to fund Planned Parenthood in Indiana. The GOP wants the ability to tailor their programs. Opponents believe the poor's healthcare will suffer. Of course it will!

And inevitably, that wingnut Chris Christie, R, NJ is right at the top of the charge.

Republicans need to get the message - Americans want jobs - not more messing with the poor, we want jobs!
Write a jobs bill, Repubs!

Yep, and it's already next to impossible to get Medicaid in Indiana. You have to be completely disabled along with being completely poor (I know someone with a disabled child and they won't let him have it because the family is above the poverty level, even though they are poor and can't afford the outrageous healthcare expenses) or you have to be a poor child. I think they might still let the welfare mothers have it but, I'm not sure because my child is grown and I can't get it. I have $0 income and am completely destitute and they won't let me have it. They told me that only children under 18 can get it. I get no health care at all and have numerous health problems that just have to be let go. I went to the ER a while back for something that couldn't be ignored any longer and I had to get a prescription for antibiotics and the doctor and nurse couldn't believe me that a 99er (they actually knew what a 99er is) couldn't get Medicaid. I told them that I had already applied twice (once before being a 99er) within the last year and they said apply again. I would have thought that being in the ER they would already be well aware of this problem.

Illinois is the same way, though we have a Democratic governor. What I don't get is in Illinois you can get it if you are illegal and the parent of a child (legal or illegal)but childless? forget it. Illinois even has a program for the parents of these kids. However as far as they are concerned those of us without kids can just curl up and die. I feel this is pure discrimination and if childless adults can't get medicaid then no adults should be able to get it.

The funding went for low income poor women with no insurance that used Planned Parenthood too. There are 3 states as of today that have axed Medicaid funding. They are Indiana, Kansas and as of today, North Carolina.

What makes this even more insane and even more of an attack in women is that Planned Parenthood says that abortions are only 3% of the services they provide - YET the GOP axes the funding because they provide abortions at all.

On top of it, the Medicaid money was NEVER used for abortions due to The Hyde Amendment, which prevents state or federal being used for abortions.

Women need access to mammograms, cancer screening, STD's, birth control and for other reasons. Its time we to fight the GOP's need to moralize and tell women how they should live!
