Maxine Waters On Jobs, Unemployment: 'The Tea Party Can Go Straight To Hell'

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) had some harsh words for the Tea Party at a forum in Inglewood, California Saturday.

With California's jobless rate now 12 percent, the second-highest rate of unemployment in the nation after Nevada, talk about jobs, the economy and the partisan squabbling in Congress dominated the “Kitchen Table Summit.”

"I'm not afraid of anybody," Waters told the crowd. "This is a tough game. You can't be intimidated. You can't be frightened. And as far as I'm concerned, the Tea Party can go straight to hell."

I don't know. I consider myself a pretty decent guy, but when I read things about the Tea Party and the Republicans balking at a continued tax credit for the poor and middle class while screaming that the rich shouldn't have to pay another dime and that their tax cuts should continue (...and I don't believe that discontinuing them is 'raising taxes'), there are a whole lot stronger things I want to shout out than 'Go to hell'.

What do you consider to be the qualities of a "lady"?

Is it only Democrats you consider to be hateful? All Democrats? No hateful Republicans? Are there more hateful Democrats than hateful Republicans? How do you know all this?

I must admit that I find the term "racist" rather odd when it is applied to a member of a race that has been a persecuted minority for several centuries and that continues to suffer from racism up to and including the present.

She has made some pretty nasty comments about others so no I'm not a fan of hers. Yes you can be racist even if your race was persecuted. I know many racist people of all races. I'm no fan of the Tea Party either but the extreme is no better.

Yes, there can be racism of one sort or another on the part of everyone. However, how does one distinguish "racism" from hurt, frustration, and anger because of persecution by the majority? Such treatment doesn't lend itself to a very high opinion of the race that has been the long-time and intense persecutor.

I know that you are no fan of Rep. Waters although I see her as someone who has always advocated for us unemployed (regardless of race), and it was in this context that she excoriated the Tea Party. Can you refer me to concrete actions or statements on the part of Rep. Waters that suppport your accusation of racism on her part? Since you base your opinion on comments you claim to have heard, I trust you can provide the substance of these comments. For some reason I have not been privy to such allegedly "racist" comments.

Apparently, you are much better at online research than I am. I just Googled "Maxine Waters Whitey", and "Maxine Water's said Whitey". Nada.

Anyway, you made the claim that Rep. Waters is a racist. Can't you support it with concrete sources? Give me a citation to a quote please. I'm willing to admit that I am wrong. Show me the sources that substantiate your claim that she is a racist.

As a member of two races I can tell you that all races have racists. We are all one species with only a tiny per cent of melanin creating the difference in the 'races' that we see. My favorite racist was the one that found out that I was Indian and suggested that I go back to India to free up a job for her...

Yes, I got a lot of hits - all from right wing sources claiming she's a racist, but not an iota of factual basis for the claims. I like facts. Yes, I can support my opinion that she is not a racist in that I have found nothing she has said or done that indicates racism on her part. Prove me wrong. Educate me.

Waters once said of the then-sitting president: "I would like to ... say ... very clearly that I believe George (H.W.) Bush is a racist." She routinely refers to the Republican Party as "the enemy." She also referred to Republican former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan as a "plantation owner."

I was no fan of Bush but this just sounds crazy.

She called the 1992 Los Angeles riots a "rebellion," and bellowed, "No justice, no peace!" She defended looters: "There were mothers who took this as an opportunity to take some milk, to take some bread, to take some shoes. Maybe they shouldn't have done it, but the atmosphere was such that they did it. They are not crooks." Waters said: "One lady said her children didn't have any shoes. She just saw those shoes there, a chance for all of her children to have new shoes. Goddamn it! It was such a tear-jerker. I might have gone in and taken them for her myself."

Class act defending the riots. I thought Rodney King's attackers should have been charged but felt the same for the attackers of Reginald Denny the WHITE driver. Really class saying it's fine to be a lazy person and get free stuff. Oh gee if a woman couldn't have afforded shoes she could have WORKED since back then there were more jobs. However, this stealing poor excuse for a mother was probably too lazy to work.

In 1973, the former Black Panther Joanne Chesimard shot and killed a New Jersey state trooper. Found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison, Chesimard escaped from a New Jersey penitentiary and fled to Cuba. Congress passed a resolution urging Castro to extradite her to this country. But Waters wrote Castro a letter, urging him to keep the "persecuted ... political activist" and likened the cop killer to Martin Luther King, since Chesimard had been "persecuted for her civil rights work"!

This is truly disgusting. She is glorifying murder and theivery. Still want to defend her? She also recently stated in some event that she is asking Obama to create jobs for BLACK people. That in itself is racist.

"An article on Huffington Post"????? That's all you can come up with to support your claims? Sorry, but I don't think anyone would consider that to be even a token response. I don't care if the source is right, left, or middle. I want a direct quote from Rep. Waters in which she uses the term "Whitey". So far you have not provided any such quote. Of course, you have also failed to provide any factual evidence whatsoever supporting your broader claim that she is a racist. If it's so easy to do so, why are you having so much difficulty?

RanBrow's point is logical, sensible, and reasonable regardless of his propensity to "flame" you. I know nothing of the history between the two of you, and I don't care one way or the other.

She really is. I just posted an article from Larry Elder (liberals call him Uncle Tom of course)where she compared a cop murderer to Martin Luther King and justified the looting after the 1992 riots saying they were poor people. Yeah, probably taking their foodstamps and selling them for drugs because so many of them didn't want to work. I am a Christian myself and justifying murder is not Christian like to me.

I read Mr. Elder's comments. They do not prove in any way that she is racist. Nothing I read leads me to conclude that she hates White people. Defending African-Americans is not in itself racist. Advocating for the poor in her Soith Central LA district is not in itself racist. It's her job to do so.

She has said some things with which I do not necessarily agree (just about every politician does), and indeed her statements can sometimes be a bit hyperbolic, but again where is the racism? Where is the hatred toward the White race as a whole? When did she use the term, Whitey? When has she expressed hatred toward White people. I'm still waiting.

I used to be a conservative Republican, until I grew up, left conservative Grand Rapids, and saw the real world.
