Bad Proposal in Congress Please read and Sign Petition
From my son:
Hi everyone,
Growing up PBS was one of the most important learning tools that I was fortunate enough to enjoy. Whether it be sesame street at home, or 3-2-1 Contact in school, PBS is a huge part of childhood education. Now, in my adult life, NPR is my source for information. Not just news but arts and music as well. My radio is always dialed to NPR and nothing else. So I am sadly writing to inform everyone that there is a budget proposal on the floor of congress, and it zeroes
out funding for both NPR and PBS--the worst proposal in more than a decade. This would likely ensure the end of both services. If you're with me on this, please take a moment to sign the e-petition on the link below. We are close to our 750,000 signatures!
I signed a petition to save NPR and PBS. Can you join me at the link
below?

Signed. Please, everyone sign this. NPR and PBS are too important to let go. I only listen to Wisconsin Public Radio, which is one of the finest public radio channels in the nation. They do have quite a few NPR programs and are available online.

They ignore us and try to get rid of us by not helping keep our living arrangements, keep cutting help for food, medical needs and other means, now they want to silence all Americans from the real news and whats going on fpr what? A few pennies reduction in the deficit? No they want to keep us in the dark now. We cant let this happen!

Well, boonie after just getting done listening to NPR and hearing them say that the protests in WI will "finally start a real debate about budgets", I have mixed feelings about this. I listen to it most times that I'm in the car and like it but, they don't always tell the truth. I remember in 2008 them saying how great the banker bailouts were and stuff. I'm thinking that maybe pulling the government funding and having them fully funded by people's donations might cause them to tell the truth a little more and stop being such a government mouthpiece, just like LinkTV that is only on DirecTV and Dish Network that tells the truth and is the only TV station that is truly independent.

So what would have happened if we hadn't bailed out the banks?
I am no historian by any means but isn't that what happened in the Great Depression - Banks failing and closing?

Nothing would have happened. Those global banks scammed us. They took all of our money and sent it overseas and are hoarding it. They aren't loaning to small business like they were supposed to and jump starting the economy at all. They just keep stealing and stealing from the whole world and consolidating all of their power. It was the biggest bank robbery in history except, it was the banks doing the robbing this time.Sunrise wrote:Jen wrote:Well, boonie after just getting done listening to NPR and hearing them say that the protests in WI will "finally start a real debate about budgets", I have mixed feelings about this. All of our small legitimate banks are still closing down like crazy. They didn't get bailed out. They are being destroyed on purpose by the huge global ones.

Factually, we don't know what would have happened, so I wouldn't see it as a lie on the part of NPR even if they appeared to have some bias regarding the need for some sort of bailout. I imagine that most reputable economists beleive that government intervention was necessary, even if they disagree as to the nature of that intervention.
In any case, I don't think NPR is a cheeerleader for the big banks.
As for television news, I find very little of interest on the private networks. The coverage tends to be superficial, sensationalistic, and driven by sound bites...and then there's FOX.
