Mac or PC? IT/Tech Support - Page 7 5840

Mac vs. PC: The stereotypes may be true

An unscientific survey by Hunch, a site that makes recommendations based on detailed user preferences, found that Mac users tend to be younger, more liberal, more fashion-conscious and more likely to live in cities than people who prefer PCs.

If I had the $$$ it would be nice to have an apple product...

Been fooling around with PC's for a few years, I noticed that the "kids" who are computer savvy brag on the different forums about how little they spend on equipment....
I also stick to "windows OS's" because they ARE more common....

An Apple a day keeps the PC doctors away. My son is an App;e disciple and I tell him they are for people who dont want to know or even care how things really work. They serve a purpose but are not the best system and I am not a MS fan either but it is what it is!

Just call me cheap. I spend what I have to, to get me to where I need to be.
If I happen to see a Mac going for less money than a PC, I'm there.

Yes, it's an operating system that is based in Linux. This is the super easy version.
EDIT to add: It works on PCs and Macs.

OK IT techies. MS auto updates. Got 21 the other day, yes 21. Nice system, Vista. Downloaded fine. Installed 9 OK and froze, Windows Installer quit.Went to a clean reboot and got 18 total and the dam installer quit again. Cant get beyond 18 and cant shut the system down as it says its still installing the crap 2 days later when it is not. Shut it down manually once and when rebooting it went into some scan disk tirade for 15 minutes and I thought I had killed it! Ideas?

It did the scan disk thing because the system was not properly shut down, is all.
You might wanna try shutting down your anti virus during the download. Could be a conflict there.

My netbook tanks on windows update. Windows 7 SP1 took forever and a day to install. I ended up having to download the full package and install it from the desktop.

Why do they bother with a beta version and then have to come out with these massive fixes to the problems? Isnt the beta supposed to catch them? Vista SP2 was a b****h to install. Oh well its what we have to live with I suppose!

I would just install Ubuntu on my Netbook if the Touch Screen Support was better. Much sleeker package than Windows, Even though I love 7 it is still a hog.

Why Macs are Better

- Macs give you the ability to run OS X and Windows both (legally).

- Macs work great with other Apple components such as the iPhone, iPod Classic, iPod Nano, iPod Touch, iPod Shuffle, etc...

- Macs are very simple to use.

- Macs are less prown to computer viruses, although they can get viruses.

- Purchasing a Mac gives you Apple Store support.

- Apple uses quality parts to manufacture Macs.

- Macs are trendsetting, designed well, and visually appealing.

- Macs come with better software, out of the box (iLife).

- Macs give you out of the box access to the iTunes Store, if you are an iPod or iPhone user.

- Out of the box, Macs are not loaded with trials and additional software.

- Apple has top of the line phone support.

Why PCs are Better

- You can build a PC from the ground up, picking each individual component. PCs give you maximum customizability.

- PCs are generally cheaper in price. You can get the same processor, amount of RAM, and hard drive capacity for much cheaper with a PC.

- Branded PCs are a wide market. You have many options when it comes to choosing a PC: Dell, HP, Gateway, etc... There are really only 6 types of Mac computer: MacBook, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, Mac Mini, iMac, and Mac Pro.

- PCs have better software compatibility. You can find practically any software for PC. Macs are more limited in selection.

- PCs generally have better backwards compatibility. You can run Windows 7 on a 5 year old PC. You cannot run Snow Leopard on a Power Mac G5.

- More people use PCs. Thus, PCs have a larger support community behind them.

- The majority of businesses use PCs.

- PCs are better for gaming.

- PCs have more compatible accessories than Macs.

- PCs are more upgradable.

- PCs are open source.

A friend of mine used it to keep in contact with her son while he was overseas in the military. She liked it and said it was easy to use.

A friend just got a 15" MacBook Pro from the Apple Store online that had been reconditioned for $1300. Brand new it would have cost over $1800
