I wouldn't consider myself an it tech person but know quite a bit and usually can fix my pc on my own. The one problem I could never figure out was last year when I lost a music database I lost.

I actually do website design but not really know the code fluently (I use FrontPage and Dreamweaver). I haven't done the ticker but have done the graphic where you can tell how many hits you get from a website.

My MacBook is running really slow this morning. Not just the DAWU forum but everything. I keep getting the dreaded MAC beach ball.

Any simple tips on how to get it to speed up? Should I reboot the WiFi modum?

Sometimes restarting the computer helps.

I don't know about Macbooks but I've had a bad problem with m pc going slow. I went into add/removed programs and deleted everything I never use. Periodically I also defrag my computer and remove cookies/browsing history. For some reason I had cookies I couldn't get rid of so I deleted them manually by going into regedit.

How old is your Mac? Do you have AppleCare?

I have a MacBook Pro that is going on 3 years old. I have AppleCare that expires in April. I sure hope that I have a job by then; otherwise, I won't be able to afford a renewal.

My friend jabs me all the time because I don't really know and use my Mac to its full capabilities. There is a Mac user group in my town that I keep saying that I will join. When I have an extra $25, I will - it could be fun. Smile

It is about 5 years old. I had Apple Care and it was great. I don't know how to run this thing at it's full capacity either. It is like having a Rolls Royce but not knowing how to get it out of 1st gear. Very Happy

Well I addded all the updates and that took almost an hour. I also rebooted the modem. We'll see. (not sure how to defrag/compress or eliminate cookies.)

I don't know anything about MAC but, on mine it is in the control panel under performance and maintenance.

I've actually called it support and knew more about the pc than the person from India, which annoys me big time. This is why I try to fix the problem by myself or take it to a computer repair company near me.

As for defrag and removing cookies I am not sure how to do that from Mac since it's been a long time using one. In Windows it's under start, then all programs, accessories, system tools, then defrag. Cookies has a few ways to remove them, such as going to internet options then tools, or control panel and internet options.

There is no defrag on a Mac. You can buy software that'll do that. To get rid of temporary internet cookies in Safari you empty the cache.

Here's a link that I just found and I'll probably use it myself. IT/Tech Support - Page 2 583654 http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=182839

Thanks everyone. Still working on it. Very frustrating. Almost everytime I click on something I get the beachball. Sunrise, I'm going to try those links.

Forgot that cache and all was in Safari. I'll give that a try.

I have another MAC/email question but I'm going to try to speed up the computer today. I almost NEVER have any problems with this computer. I'm going to sign up for a free MAC class on iMovie so maybe I can get some help at the Apple store

mrgolf, is there another computer using your same internet connection and if so, are they downloading or watching a movie or something?
Mine slows down when my daughter is here with her computer.

Thanks for your help everyone. I don't know what I did for sure but my MacBook has speeded a lot. I think it might have been clearing the cache in Safari.

Much appreciated. Great to have you guys here.

I'm not at all tech savvy, so bear with my question, please.
Why can't I get to dawu.forumotion.com using yahoo search (my home page). I have to go to google every time. Is there some thingy I must do to creat a shortcut or something? Any help appreciated.
Thanks.

Use the easy way, open the home page and save it to your favorites and open it from there every time!
