Underemployed
Underemployment refers to people who are working in a lower capacity than they are qualified for, including in a lower-paid job or for less hours than they would like to work.
A person is considered underemployed when they are working at a job they are over-qualified for, working part-time when they would prefer full-time work, or working at a low-wage job when they could, if jobs were available, be working more hours.

Re: Underemployed
This describes my employment status perfectly...
After 2 1/2 years unemployment/unsuccesful job searching, I finally landed a full time, permanent job (37.5 hrs/wk) job - making 35% LESS than the job I lost in 2008.
My gross weekly wages are 25% less than my unemployment benefits had been.
I held this type of position more than 15 years ago, and the standard wage at that time (mid 1990's) was $2.00 more per hour.
This is what is happening everywhere - in every field - I'm sad to see.
I'm barely keeping body and soul together, financially... But I'd been a 99er for 5 months - so this job beats having nothing.
