I don't have any articles to quote but when you get the interview, of couse dress nicely in what you are comfortable in. If you have the chance to visit the enviroment beforejand and see what everyone wears, a nice inside touch on how to dress. Relax and be confident.. Confidence gets you the job assuming you have the base skills needed. You cannot be a timid mouse or an over ego driven tiger, just be yourself is the best answer I can give.

Job Interview Tips and Advice Empty Re: Job Interview Tips and Advice

I had an interview with a recruiter a few weeks ago and he paid me a compliment on my dress suit and appropriate attire. He told me that a lot of candidates come into his office dressed slovenly and look like they're going to the laundramat. He tries to be diplomatic with these candidates and gives them tips on how to dress. If these candidates are overweight, he tactfully tells them they may want to lose some weight. He said that most of these candidates are appreciative, but some get offended. I am an older candidate and there's nothing I can do to shave years off, but I use what I have been given to my advantage by making sure my hair, make-up and nails are perfect and I select clothing that makes me look a lot thinner than I really am. The recruiter was pretty candid on what the employers are looking for and that appearance DOES REALLY MATTER to employer.

While I was waiting in the lobby of the recruiter's agency, there was another applicant who was older like me and all I could think about was how OVERPOWERING her perfume was--thought I was going to gag. Have you ever been on an elevator and a man or women gets on who smells like they used the whole bottle of perfume or cologne and you immediately cover your nose and inch far away as you can from this person? A lot of offices are now "fragrance free" because so many people have allergic reactions to strong scents. Can't tell you how many times my BFF former co-worker would go down to HR to complain about another co-worker that was wearing an overpowering fragrance and my BFF would literally get headaches from the stench. After my BFF had chemo her olfactory glands became really sensitive to fragrance. I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you can smell your own fragrance/cologne you've got too much on. Just sayin.
