Marketing Overqualified to Your Advantage in the Job Search Empty Re: Marketing Overqualified to Your Advantage in the Job Search

"Think like the hiring manager. Assuage the company fear factor right off the bat and address flight risk and high salary expectations.

Enthusiasm works -- desperation doesn't. Explain why
you are genuinely interested in the position and why you are a value-add
to the organization. Be authentic and sell your skills, ..."

My problem is that I am not a good liar. Faking enthusiasm, genuine interest, and that I am not worth more than they are paying me but will stick it out for the long-term is going to be a real challenge for me. Suspect I am damned desperate for a job - why else would I have applied to these two. I ask myself how in the hell am I going to convince them otherwise.

I applied for one job that I am over-qualified for and really dumb-downed my resume. They will let me know by March 15th if they will interview me. You better believe that if I got that job, I would still look for and jump at the first opportunity to take something that I am qualified for and pays me what I should make.

I applied for another job that I am not really qualified (I think that I am a quota applicant for this position) for and am not sincerely interested in. I have an interview next week. Sure if the job is offered, I will accept (that is if I can get the money to move). Here again, I will continue to look for another job that I am qualified for and pays me what I should make.

These are 2 "Hasta la vista" jobs - I know it and am sure that they know it. Jeez! Marketing Overqualified to Your Advantage in the Job Search 395651

Sunrise all I can say is we all have to get better at playing the game. I hate lying also but my god I have to start believing whatever it is they want I have to prove to them I am it. I have to take whatever and however to survive. We're not in Kansas anymore. So very sad but true, things will never be the same I fear.

This is a good point from the article. How many people can say what qualities they would like to see in an employer? Before interviewing look up the company values. They are usually somewhere on the web site. State which of these values match your own. I have found that using some of their key words and phrases works best. Most employers repeat these values often, but many people don't recognize the value unless it has some of the same phrases.

"With age comes wisdom. While newbie hires may be shiny and bright with the ink barely dry on their diplomas, a more seasoned professional is more likely to choose an organization based on the company values that match their own. A recent Harvard Business Review discussed how overqualified employees tend to perform better and don't quit any sooner than other employees. For an experienced hire -- it's more about job satisfaction and fit than merely just finding work."
