Wow! Nevada is at 14.2%. I guess it is not so surprising because pretty much their whole industry is derived by service. No one coming to Vegas to play the slots (who can afford it) and because businesses are not thriving, they are probably trying to hold conferences at places that are cheaper.

The rate for Louisiana is bogus-they do not count all the people laid off or affected by the oil spill. Because they are paid by BP instead of unemployment they are not included in the unemployment numbers.

Unemployment Rate Rises In Ten States, In Spite Of Optimistic Jobs Report

Unemployment Rate Rises In Ten States, In Spite Of Optimistic Jobs Report

WASHINGTON -- The unemployment rate fell or held steady in 40 states
in January, the latest sign that hiring is strengthening throughout the
country.

The Labor Department says the unemployment rate fell in 24 states
and remained the same in 16. The unemployment rate rose in only 10
states. In December, the rate fell in 15 states and rose in 20.

Employers
added to their payrolls in 35 states in January, up from only 15 in the
previous month. That's the most to report higher payrolls since October.

Nationwide, employers added 63,000 net jobs in January, and the
unemployment rate fell sharply to 9 percent from 9.4 percent. The rate
ticked down last month to 8.9 percent and employers added 192,000 net
jobs.

Michigan's unemployment rate of 10.7% is inconclusive. We have high pockets of unemployment above this state average. Here in Flint, Michigan, the unemployment rate is 20.3%. For Genessee County, where Flint is, it is 11.8%. Locally in my area it is 1 out of 5 that are unemployed! BLS? Stands for Bull**** Labor Statistics Surprised

PA & some other states just lost Tier IV. Two more months under 8.5% & EB will be gone for PA & those other states too. As this trend continues.....millions of people will become exhaustees much sooner than they expected. HR 589 must pass.

@Phillymg, or anyone else, do you have a link for this, I've been trying to get clarification of this (transition from Tier 3 to Tier 4) and the PADOL website is about as clear as mud. Called the PADOL and the guy I spoke to said that there wasn't a trigger for Tier 4, and that I should be able to transition to Tier 4, but there would be a trigger for EB..........talk about confusing.

A state must have 8.5% or over ue to qualify for Tier IV.

http://www.nelp.org/sites/unemployedworkers/index.php/resources/resource_entry/extended_benefits

I was a bit wrong about EB. It's 6% or over to get the 13 weeks of EB & 8% or over to get the additional 7 weeks of EB.

Phillymg is correct. Pa was 8.6% in November 8.5% in December and 8.2% in January. Pa mentions there is a high UE rate necessary but does not specify. It is 8.5

@aloneinpa.. Here is the Pa link
http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt?open=514&objID=552124&mode=2

It is halfway down the page. Also it is a 3 month average for the trigger

Ok, so why is PADOL saying on the phone that I would transition from Tier 3 to Tier 4, and another PA unemployed also called and was told the same thing as me. This other person had the individual who answered the phone and was assisting, talk to their supervisor, and the supervisor also backed this up. Thanks for responding guys, I just want a straight answer.

It might be that as of April 1st PA claimants can't get Tier IV. In other words since the Jan. 8.2% rate was just announced today.....the change would take effect starting the 1st of next month.

Btw last summer when she started a new claim my gf was told by PADLI on the phone that she would 'absolutely' keep getting the extra $25. Nope. The person on the phone was wrong.
