WHEELING -- The Regional Economic
Development Partnership will spend $1 million to help the Orrick,
Herrington and Sutcliffe law firm expand its operations in Wheeling. There
are currently 28 attorneys working in Orrick's Wheeling facility, and
they hope to expand that number to as many as 40 or 50, said Brian
Schare, Orrick's chief administration officer. Those attorneys will be
housed in space presently utilized by document review employees. The
document review employees will move to a larger space on the first
floor, and this could mean more hirings for Orrick. Schare said there
are currently 65 employees who do document review for Orrick, and this
number could increase to as many as 100 following the expansion. When
Orrick announced in 2001 it would be locating its global operations
center in the former Wheeling Stamping Building on Main Street, the
firm believed it would create 250 jobs.West Virginia Acting Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin was among those present for the announcement at the center on Main Street.
