Help!! Who Can Make a Clock??
Here's a stab at starting a UI Exhaustee Clock.....
3.9 Million Americans Exhausted Max UI in 2010--
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/02/10/2010-unemployment-benefits-exhausted_n_820957.html
4.0 Million Americans Are Exhausting UI in 2011.....
http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/microsites/20101202-cea-economic-impact-temp-ui-extensions.pdf
7.9 MILLION TOTAL BREAKS DOWN THIS WAY--
333,333 per month
76,923 per week
10,989 per day
458 per hour
7.6 per minute
.13 per second
At 11:59 pm Dec. 31, 2010.....the clock would start at 3,900,000 million**
At 11:59 pm Jan. 31, 2011.....the clock would be at 4,233,333 million
At 11:59 pm Feb. 14, 2011.....the clock would be at 4,387,179 million
etc etc etc
At 11:59 pm Dec. 31, 2011.....the clock would be at 7,900,000 million
[**Clock started at zero on Feb. 28, 2010 so March 1, 2010 is the official start date.]
Glancing around the net & not knowing anything about code I see experts recommending to use a 'count-up' clock not a 'count-down' clock & here's a page with free 'count-up' code--
http://wsabstract.com/script/script2/countup.shtml
(Note--I realize that the 7.9 mil total by 12/31/11 may be low.....but it's what we have in hand in terms of what we can document from Delaney's article & the WH report. A bird in the hand & all that.....)
So whoever knows how to make code.....let's get crackin & make our clock!!

Re: Help!! Who Can Make a Clock??
For example like this outdated AFL-CIO clock. In the past the EPI & NELP have also made UI clocks. But none of them will step out on the ledge & make a current clock so we're on our own. I don't know how to design a website/write code. Hopefully someone here does.

Imo great progress can be made on HR589 if only we had a clock!!

Re: Help!! Who Can Make a Clock??
This is so amazingly important!! I've been saying it all along that the numbers are growing in truth but the media is sweeping it under the rug.
It's a widget Phyllymg. aflcio.org is sharing the code & graphic. On the link you provided you can "Get Counter"
I copied it here. Good luck behind the scenes getting this embedded on DAWU!!!

Re: Help!! Who Can Make a Clock??
I couldn't edit my post without losing the code but. . .
that counter on AFL-CIO does not appear to be old counting #s -- just the date of Dec 2010 hasn't been updated. It's scrolling away!

Re: Help!! Who Can Make a Clock??
I don't know if this helps, but you can copy links for "tickers"
if googled, will take to the websites
Then pick design, start date, ect for ticker

Please direct any of these inquiries to the Administrators. We are still in the process of getting the Board set up for advocacy! Please be patient, we are doing our best and new at this also. This board opened on Saturday night. ConcernedinKY could have kept it closed until everything was perfect, but because of the circumstances, he was good enough to open it to all immediately.
Thank you for your patience and please understand, we are working on it around the clock!

Re: Help!! Who Can Make a Clock??
Angelika--
The AFL-CIO clock is *old* (outdated).....it was counting the people who lost the ability to move to the next tier after Nov. 30th.....but once the Tax Cut bill passed in Dec. that clock became obsolete. They just never got around to taking it down. Their clock *didn't include* any exhaustees/99ers. For instance right now the AFL-CIO clock is at 3,771,155 but that ## is too low b/c the exhaustees as of 11:59 pm tonite will be 4,387,179.
http://www.aflcio.org/countdown_e_uiexpire.cfm
I just gave the AFL-CIO clock & the Cost of Wars clock as examples.
DIRI--I *did* PM Jim about this earlier tonite. He said he doesn't know how to do a clock & I said I'd put out a call for help making a clock & Jim told me good go ahead.
I wasn't talking about putting the clock here on the DAWU site (tho after thinking about it maybe that's a good idea)--I was talking about somebody who knows how setting up a clock page for us on its own webpage.
But since there's been no response from anybody saying 'I know how' maybe nobody here knows how to design a webpage with a clock.....I'll have to put on my thinking cap & see if I know anybody who knows how & would be willing to do it.

Re: Help!! Who Can Make a Clock??
Thanks for the vote of confidence DIRI. I am no coder. There are several widgets out there. But how to enter specific data like the AFL-CIO clock is not clear. Like the link below, it counts down to a specific date.
http://www.7is7.com/otto/countdclock.html
http://happycountdown.com
http://www.widgetbox.com/widget/countdown-clock
The first site is open source which means free to use. I will look into it later today.

Mo, I remember you and JIM discussing his computer issues and it sounded like you were speaking in a foreign language!
IMO, you are a computer genius! When they were looking for a clock, you are the first one that came to mind!

Re: Help!! Who Can Make a Clock??
The word computer is so broad no one person can know everything. I skipped programming (coding) as someone much younger is better suited to learn new languages. Which is what code is and there are many programming languages out there.

Thought:
The key is to find out "who" made the clock (maybe a book bio called US Debt Clock from library) or info from (http://www.usdebtclock.org):
PS one clue: the clock is not associated with any government agency or any government industry.
comment@usdebtclock.org may direct you to the company or person that makes it tick.

Re: Help!! Who Can Make a Clock??
Okay, I left an IM message with an ex co-worker who codes PHP. Will check to see is he's around tomorrow. The parameters are too complex to use something online. I tried several free downloads and they just countdown to a birthday, anniversary, etc. Not sophisticated enough.

Re: Help!! Who Can Make a Clock??
http://www.google.com/search?q=%22national+debt+clock%22&tbm=bks&tbo=1. This will give listings of books. I contacted the main library said to check the "world" library? There are no books at the library for debt clock???? I checked on the online computer that checks all libraries and then chatted with a TN librarian who said she would check the PA libraries and then said world library.
