Did you say UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE? Five
members of the CBC, Rep. Emanuel Cleaver of Missouri, Del. Donna
Christensen of the Virgin Islands, G.K. Butterfield of North Carolina,
Andre Carson of Indiana and Yvette Clarke of New York, met with
President Obama yesterday at the White House for about an hour. It’s
tricky with this meeting to know what will come up. Often, a meeting is
planned on one topic and ends up floating on to another. But a note to the 99ers and all who are concerned about unemployment insurance: IT DID COME UP AT THE MEETING.
Thanks to a readout provided by kick-ass CBC Communications maven Stephanie Young we can learn the basics of what was discussed. I will get the specifics as I track down the members today…
This is from Ms. Young: “READOUT of the CBC Executive Board Meeting with President Barack Obama - “Earlier
today, the Congressional Black Caucus Executive Board held their first
meeting of the year with President Obama building upon its long-standing
relationship with the White House. In a substantive and wide-ranging
discussion, the Executive Board addressed federal budget issues and our
country’s long term investment in our most vulnerable communities. More
specifically they discussed the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families
Emergency Contingency Fund (TANF-ECF), empowerment zones in persistent
poverty communities, and unemployment benefits.
This is the first of many conversations, the CBC looks forward to
holding a follow up meeting with the President and entire Caucus. The
meeting reflected our ongoing relationship and agreement to continue the
conversation on key issues.” Of course I have to find out the details.
The House has a long day but I will track the members involved down ank
ask for more information.

Well I guess he can't claim he doesn't know what a 99er is now. Will he ever say it???? I doubt it, I would fall over if the term ever left his mouth....

One reason you won't hear it, is because it is not statistically true. Not everyone who has exhausted their benefits is a 99'er, or will be for that matter.
