Today 9:01 AM White House Shutdown Talks Preempt Boner Meeting On 99ers
HuffPost's Arthur Delaney reports:
House Speaker John Boner (R-Ohio) had to cancel a planned meeting with Reps. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) and Bobby Scott (D-Va.) to discuss possible legislation for the long-term unemployed on Thursday.
Instead of chatting about “99ers” – people who’ve exhausted 99 weeks of unemployment benefits without finding work -- Boner’s heading to the White House Thursday afternoon for more shutdown talks with President Obama.
“We’re disappointed Speaker Boner had to cancel the meeting,” Lee spokesman Joel Payne said. “We hope it can be rescheduled for next week.”

Big surprise. Kicked to the curb again.

This is so ridiculous.....They couldn't take 30 minutes to meet about this bill.....This is crazy.....All the republicans do is make empty promises....they do not care about anything........unless it is something to benefit the rich people.....

Many were saying they are off next week. Guess that's not the case.

What else is new? Maybe the meeting will be held next week, don't hold your breathe. Sorry, but this is how I feel.

Not a huge surprise...if they haven't cared about the 99ers since the first batch of us started over a year ago, what's the big deal if a few more starve, die or become homeless while they drag their heels? Apologies for the sarcasm, but over a year of living on the edge day to day has really taken it's toll on me, and my children by default. I'm so disgusted. There will be some other reason they will put it off next week too.

Honestly, I'm not surprised. They don't care about the American people. They just care about themselves and their wallets. What a mess this country is in. What do they care if they shut the government down, they still get paid. It's unbelieveable.

Well I gues they figure if we haven't all died off by now, what's another week or 4 of suffering gonna do?

With all the talk about states cutting off benefits and unemployment claims dropping to a wonderful blue sky future, how can anyone think 589 is going to pass??? Sorry.. But Lee is now silent as was Stabenow after her introduction. She kind of went away! I am negative but tired of living on false hopes. I might as well as look to the sky for a basket of gold to fall on my head!

Yes, it is extremely frustrating that the meeting was cancelled, but don't give up. The budget talks and the real possibility of a Gov't shutdown is sucking the air out of the room for any other discussion to take place in Washington. We have seen delays like this before, but we must persevere and keep putting the pressure on them.

Keep your hopes up. Prepare for the worst and hope for the best. We should be used to delays by now

I guess they can't chew gum and walk at the same time. Canceling this meeting is hogwash! They could have fit it into their schedule if they wanted to. It just shows where their priorities are - not the American people who are in desperate need of help.
