Gov. Cuomo Extends Unemployment Benefits For Another Year - 99ers Should Be Happy
Gov. Andrew Cuomo extended the unemployment benefits for another year. I wish I lived in New York.
New York extends federal unemployment benefits
Albany, New York - March 29, 2011
Out-of-work New Yorkers will get to keep unemployment benefits through the end of 2011.
New York participates in a two-year federally funded unemployment insurance program that started in 2009. In December, Congress extended the program for another year. Gov. Andrew Cuomo has now signed legislation that amends state law and allows New York to qualify for the third year of the program.
Without it, 166,000 New Yorkers wouldn't receive full unemployment benefits and the state would have lost out on $620 million in federal unemployment funds.

I think this means that NY state will still receive the extended benefits from the federal government through the end of this year. This does not mean additional weeks of unemployment compensation.
Here's some information from the New York State Department of Labor site:
"Q: What extensions of unemployment insurance benefits are currently available?
A: Currently, there are sixty-seven (67) weeks of additional benefits available for individuals who exhaust their 26 weeks of regular benefits. They are broken down as follows:
Forty seven (47) weeks of additional benefits are known as Emergency Benefits, since they are provided under the Emergency Unemployment Compensation Program.
20 weeks of additional benefits are known as Extended Benefits, since they are provided under the Extended Benefits Program"
