It is past time for grassroots Americans to demand a crisis response to unemployment. Some elites on Wall Street—the latest being analysts at Wells Fargo, one of the Wall Street behemoths responsible for the destruction of the Main Street economy—believe that the country is settling into a "new normal" of 7 percent unemployment; that our problems are "structural" and there is little we can or should do in the short term to address them—except to give more tax breaks to the richest Americans and corporations and wait to see what trickles down.

Goolsbee needs to join the ranks of the unemployed. The best move Obama could make now is to bring former Secretary of Labor Robert Reich into his administration. He turned things around for Clinton from '93 through '97 - it was the best move Clinton ever made. Time for Obama to take lessons from past administrations.

Goolsbee is a mouthpiece. He just says what he's told to say.

Geithner's the *real* problem on the President's staff. He wants to keep companies offshoring & outsourcing US jobs at a record pace. Geithner used to live in India & has close ties to India.....not to mention his ties to China.

It's ironic that when Reich's name was suggested to replace Summers the media went nutz saying Reich was 'too close' to China. Hah. Like Reich would've supported outsourcing more than Geither. Instead of someone like Reich who'd tamp down the offshoring we got the CEO of GE Immelt who's shipping American jobs overseas as fast as he can.

I agree that the President should bring Reich on board....yesterday!!

Robert Reich and David Gergen discuss the economic and political implications of the recent jobs reports and Wall St.'s plunge.

"JOBS are the main concern now - NOT the deficit!"

CNN Video from yesterday morning:

Thanx for the video. I like Gergen alot too. Did anybody find it strange that Wall Street took a fall AFTER THE REPUBS IN THE HOUSE REFUSED TO RAISE THE DEBT LIMIT yet the media doesn't make the connection?? The reason Wall Street's in trouble is due to the uncertainty about raising the debt limit. If Congress would just raise it & get it over with then Wall Street would go back to business as usual. But the Repubs in the House want to play games by holding the debt limit hostage to their much-wanted destruction of the social safety net. Cantor/Boehner etc. want to destroy America.....& they're doing a dandy job at it.

I wish I could find the article now. It was in the Washington Post on Monday. The GOP timed the meeting so the results wouldn't come out until just before or after the market closed for the day in order to avoid the same kind of disaster that happened in the fall of 2008.

Sorry all,not silent, just so busy trying to survive Mad .Just got done flooding, trying to get the gardens planted,My daughter & son in law just managed to get most of the upstairs painted in their house,so we had to move 3 kids & 2 adults upstairs, they'd all been squished in 2 bedrooms & a pantry........I am amazed that we "decorated" those kids rooms,NICE,with just odds and ends from the 2 houses Shocked ,everything (including the paint) was from right here, already used, used & cleaned up & used again
I'm just so,I don't know, bummed,I guess, sort of feel like this whole thing is just getting worse pale We had to borrow $600 to get hubbys cdl,he's passed the written, and goes the 7th & tests the 8th........but has to drive 7 hours one way to test. Then he said this morning that some of the companies in N.D. were now saying "don't apply unless you have 5 years experience & another saying don't apply unless YOU LIVE in the Williston area".......so did we borrow the $$$$ for nothing??? No Just wish things would start looking up!!!!!!!! Lori

Common carriers like CRST in Cedar Rapids Ia. are your best bet to get an over the road driving job. If you have a place to park the truck they do not care how far from Cedar Rapids that you are. I drive for them once in a while when construction is slow. The pay is not great but they are always short of drivers.
