I didn't hear him say a length of time. He's probably talking about the bill for the 14 weeks.Angelika wrote:Did he say 13 weeks for Emergency UI for 99ers?

He said 13 MONTHS,not weeks.I heard this a few times yesterday. They are going for as much as they can get now for us.Why not this is our last shot at it,so go for the whole ball of wax. They knew that 14 weeks was not enough for us.13 MONTHS sounds alot better.

It sounded to me like he said 13 months about the date extension that was passed with the tax cuts at the end of last year. Then he said something about needing more help for the 99ers.trotter39 wrote:He said 13 MONTHS,not weeks.I heard this a few times yesterday. They are going for as much as they can get now for us.Why not this is our last shot at it,so go for the whole ball of wax. They knew that 14 weeks was not enough for us.13 MONTHS sounds alot better.

Yes, it is. I think he said that Bobby Scott's alternative to the other bill is a 13 month extension plus, additional help for the 99ers. I don't quite understand why he said that because the 13 months already passed.trotter39 wrote:It was alittle hard to hear, but thats what i was getting out of it.You could be right.Going to keep playing it.At least we are in there hearts still.Thats good right?

It would not surprise me if he got his wording wrong.Look back on how many times that this whole extention talk got so messed up.Even the media and Senators did not understand who was getting what. Some thought that the 99ers were included. How crazy is that.

CONYERS BUDGET CUT FORUM. Today
at a budget forum held by Rep. John Conyers, NAACP Washington Director
Hilary Shelton spoke on the budget. He mentioned the $850 billion tax
deal bill passed in December that increased the debt and saluted CBC
budget efforts. He also mentioned those who have already run out of
unemployment benefits.

http://democrats.judiciary.house.gov/hearing/impact-budget-proposals-justice-system-and-jobs
Statement of the Honorable John Conyers, Jr.,
Ranking Member of the House Committee on the Judiciary, for the Forum
on the Impact of Budget Proposals on Justice, Job Creation, Public Safety, and
Constitutional Rights
Last week, the House passed H.R. 1, the most draconian package of spending
cuts in recent memory.
In my view, the solution is that the federal government should be doing more
to promote our economic recovery by rebuilding our infrastructure, improving
our schools, and training American workers to compete in the 21st Century. And,
we do not have to look far to find the necessary funding for this increased
spending.
We simply need to close the numerous tax loopholes for the rich and Wall
Street corporations. And, most importantly, we need to end our nation’s
involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan.
For example, the average cost of maintaining a single American soldier in
Afghanistan is $1.2 million a year, according to the Center
for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments. Multiply that amount by the number of
troops currently stationed there and we’re talking $120 billion that otherwise
could be used to fund our nation’s economic recovery.
[Per the Pentagon figures there are now 94,000 American troops
in Afghanistan; 4,330 deaths and over 100,000 have been injured. In
Iraq we still have 50,000 troops; 4,439 deaths and over 32,033 seriously
injured (i.e. brain injuries, loss limbs, etc.]
Conyers is opposed to the below cuts--I am not:
H.R. 1 cuts nearly $850 million of Migration and Refugee
Assistance funding, which is used to protect refugees overseas and to settle
them in the U.S. According to Eric Schwartz, Assistant Secretary of State for
Population, Refugees and Migration, this cut “represents an American policy
retreat of historic proportions, with unprecedented and really devastating
effects on our leadership in saving lives and preventing conflict.
[As taxpayers, we have a RIGHT to know what countries? How many get to come here and get all the freebies? I don’t think the above savings is a bad thing especially in this economy.]
WE COULD BETTER USE THESE MONIES FOR THE INJURED/RETURNING VETERANS FOR REHABILITATION, HELP OUR SOLDIERS FIND JOBS AND RAISE THEIR STIPENDS--THEY TOO HAVE BEEN FORGOTTEN.
