But if more states start pushing for stuff like this, even if it isn't your state (I'm in KY, we all know what that means) there will be more attention brought to the issue overall and that's what we need, attention. Attention so that it can't be ignored on a federal/national level any longer.

I wish that I knew how to get MoveOn involved in our cause. Imagine the power that they could bring to our cause - major protests in each state. But one problem facing the unemployed is that we don't have any money to get there. But I believe that if the unemployed in the cities chosen would unite, it could send a powerful message.

the way i understand it it will pass the 99ers in oregon will get 6 more weeks

Is this how its going to go? Individual states, but mostly federal money? Because Walker in Wisconsin already sent back $800 million in rail money, he's not going to go for this...

This is great news! At a time when nine states refused to accept the feds money for extended benefits at least one state is trying to take care of their own.

Does OR currently get 99 weeks?? Looking at their site & another site.....it seems like claimants in OR currently can get only 79 weeks.

The total cost of the two bills (one adds 20 weeks & the other adds 6 weeks for a total of 26 weeks) is $255 million. The state of OR will kick in $30 million. Apparently there's a Federal Emergency Fund that will give OR $225 million.

This is interesting news. If there exists *already budgeted federal $$* to extend UI benefits on a state-by-state basis.....then why don't the rest of the high-ue states apply for it?? What's the cutoff rate for a state to qualify for the $$?? Wonder if a state must be over 10% ue to get the $$??

Oregon Wants To Work has a rally in Salem for this and other legislation, on Monday March 7th.

Excerpt from an email to me:

There is a critical Rally for Jobs this Monday, March 7th in Salem. We will gather at 12:00 p.m. on the steps of the State Capitol to advocate for good job-creating legislation and the need to address Oregon's unemployment now.

Free transportation by bus from Portland is available for all. Meet no later than 9:45 am at Machinists District Lodge 24; 3645 SE 32nd Ave, Portland. Buses depart 10 a.m. for Salem.
