Conservative blog calls on Republicans to oppose 99er unemployment extension
Published: Monday, March 28, 2011, 3:07 PM Updated: Monday, March 28, 2
The conservative Red State blog is calling on Republican leaders Eric Cantor and John Boehner to oppose any further unemployment extensions.
The conservative Red State Blog today posted a story calling on Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) to "draw a line in the sand" on continued extensions of unemployment benefits.
The post is in response to a pledge from Boehner and Cantor to meet with Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) and Bobby Scott (D-Va.) to discuss HR 589, the “Emergency Unemployment Compensation Expansion Act of 2011."
The proposed legislation would extend unemployment benefits 14 weeks for “99ers,” those who have exhausted all available 99 weeks of benefits. The Republican leaders agreed to a meeting to discuss the bill after Scott and Lee agreed to fund the $16 billion bill with spending offsets.
According to the Red State blog:
"The debate should no longer revolve around the actual budget cost of extending unemployment benefits. Republicans should oppose any future extension on the grounds that it would create a permanent entitlement and would perpetuate unemployment. ... If there really are $16 billion in extra expenditures, magically discovered by Democrats, they should be eliminated in a stand alone provision even without extending unemployment benefits."
Red State is urging its readers to call their Republican House members and tell them to oppose the bill.
Joel Payne, a spokesman for Rep. Lee's office said, "Considering that there are five unemployed workers for every available job, Rep. Lee hopes that Republican leadership will reject this extremist, ultra right-wing view."

I am still waiting for the Republicans to propose a law that would take the number Pi (3.14159...) and round it off to simple plain 3....

Eric Erickson is the editor of Red State.....
He wants to be a billionaire & will step over anybody to get there.....

Somebody should lock Erickson, Beck, & Limbaugh in a room together & let them tear each other apart.....
