People in Illinois - Call Sens Kirk and Durbin about the Budget Plan Cuts
Heads up: Congress is debating a budget plan that would be devastating to Illinois. Will you pass this along?
Senators Mark Kirk and Dick Durbin need to hear from all of us about it right now, before they cut a deal in the next few days.
Please spread the word about all of these proposed cuts to Illinois:
$83 million would be cut from federal funds for clean and safe water in Illinois.
1. 6,900 Illinois children would be immediately cut from Head Start, which provides comprehensive early childhood development services for at-risk children ages zero to five.
2. $243 million would be cut from Pell Grants, affecting all 392,000 higher education students with those grants in Illinois.
3. Job training and employment services would be effectively eliminated for 6,300 dislocated workers, 24,000 low-income adults, and 13,000 youths age 14 to 21.
4. $6 million would be cut from law enforcement assistance, taking cops off the beat.
5. It's especially galling when the same budget protects tax breaks for corporations like GE and the very rich.
Just last night the news broke that Congress may be close to striking a deal on the budget. Now is the only time we can influence the outcome.
Can you call Sens. Kirk and Durbin and ask them to oppose these cuts in the budget? You can pick one of the cuts in this list to highlight in your call.

Re: People in Illinois - Call Sens Kirk and Durbin about the Budget Plan Cuts
Thanks for the HEADS-UP! Many people are not aware of just how devastating the BUDGET CUTS will be if they are passed like the Republicans want. The $$$ is in the MILLIONS of dollars and that includes cutting the food stamp program as well. WIA and SCSEP are employment training programs that help the unemployed by redirection, and it is funded by the federal government which would of course bring UP UP UP the unemployment rate if those 2 programs are CUT and thats just what the Republicans and Tea Party want. Its all about politics in Washington! I called Durbin's office and his staffer Chris blames it on Kirk who he claims want the CUTS! Call Kirk's office and the musical chairs continue. Like gigi said, EVERYBODY needs to call these 2 IL Senators and tell them NO CUTS to the social service programs.

NEW BILL HB 1030 passed in the IL legislation to extend benefits for ONE month and reduce the weeks from 26 to 25. Did anyone know about this bill? It sure was done VERY quietly, and another slap in the face to the unemployed by cutting the weeks down to 25 from 26 as if its THEIR the unemployed's fault for losing their job!

Senator Kirk (R-IL) is a jerk. He fits in with Scott Walker, cut all benefits for the poor and extended all tax breaks for the wealthy. I will investigate if Koch Brothers gave him any money because he is nothing but a jerk who ignores the people who put him in office. That is truth!

Why do you feel that this new bill extends it for only one month?
Just asking because I was under the impression that this bill allows Il to use a three year lookback, rather than a two year lookback which would then allow EB to continue throughout 2011 or until a person reaches 99 weeks.

Yes, I did find an article about Sen. Mark Kirk. He was given $12,400 by the Koch Brothers, please read the article. He smells like Koch Brothers' flunky, talks like one and wants to do the same damage to Illinois like Walker in Wisconsin.

All of the newly-elected GOP & TPers are bought and paid for by the Koch Brothers as we all found out in the telephone conversation Gov.Walker had with fake Koch Brothers. I'm not sure people have woke up yet because these Budget cuts are getting crazier and crazier thanks to Boehner pushing the envelop.
