Recovering from the trauma of a thunderstorm last night. My oldest dog, an 8 yr old Border Collie is petrified and has a prescription from the vet for "doggie xanax". Had to give him one. Of course because he was upset, his younger "brother", my big "LeMutt", panicked and so did one of my cats. It was a real circus here last night. Wasn't expecting a storm, it came out of nowhere. Had I known, I would have given him his meds before it hit.

Thanks for posting those links. I'm going to check them out, because I have to find a way to get my dog up to date with her shots. I haven't been able to get her rabies and other annual shots that she was supposed to get last spring-it's just so expensive, and I'm afraid to take her out where there are people around because of not having the rabies shot. Maybe one of these links can help me find a place that might have lower fees. Thanks again. Kathy

That was a weird storm. My cats don't care but the dog ran under the bed. Here is ARF Animal Relief fund

Thanks DIRI!
Here's a few more:

P.A.W.S. is a national non-profit organization that helps with low cost needs. You can search for PAWS in your state for listings. On Feb 22nd they are holding National Spay / Neutering Day
http://www.petco.com/petco_Page_PC_veterinaryservices_Nav_132.aspx
Petco also has affordable help based on income. They have Mobile Unit Day that parks a motorhome clinic in their parking lot. You need an appointment but I paid only $22 for neutering.
http://www.animalleague.org/
North Shore Animal League on Long Island, NY
Cities and Towns also sponsor discounted vaccination days in the Spring around the country. Check with your town, or surrounding town's, website for their schedule. I've been doing this for about 10 years now.

Geez, after that ruckus sounds like you all needed meds

no help for me and my 2 cats here in Alaska. They are going to need their vaccinations (including rabies which is very important because they are outdoor cats) soon - they are already past due.
I owe my Vet already (making monthly payments) so I can't add to the bill.

I've been there making payments for a broken leg on my puppy years ago. Yep, can't add
Mine are in/out cats so they too had to have rabies vacc. Did you know your pets can get rabies from rubbing on trees if a rabid fox or raccoon or other wildly has been there too? Vet told me that when we moved to the lake house in that wide wilderness. Interesting.
If you're close to Anchorage it looks like the ASPCA does the mobile unit to surrounding communities. They might have a town schedule?
Help your dog become a composter
You can technically compost dog waste but treat it like you would human waste while backwoods camping: Bury it in the ground -- and bury it deep.

Our county Dept of Health runs a couple of Rabies Vacc. days - different locations - in the spring. It's a health risk to humans as well. They only charge $10.00 per animal - nothing if you can prove hardship
