Re: Pa March 2011 UE RATE 7.8%
This doesn't bode well for the 2 year lookback and HUP EB 7 weeks which is pegged at a 3 month average of 8%. Feb 8%, March 7.8% so April needs to go up 8.2% to retain it. The 2 yr lookback would be 112% with the March figure so if not passed by the legislators in Pa it would trigger off in May with the April reporting

Re: Pa March 2011 UE RATE 7.8%
Sen. Tina Tartaglione is supposed to be introducing a bill to the PA legislature soon--to pass the Three Year Lookback.
http://www.senatortartaglione.com/
Will call her office tomorrow to see if they have a bill ## yet.
---------------
Even if that bill passes.....the 6 weeks of Tier IV are gone & probably the 7 weeks of HUB will disappear on June 2nd. However to at least keep PA eligible for the 13 weeks of EB the Lookback law must pass.

Re: Pa March 2011 UE RATE 7.8%
It is sickening that States and the Media are reporting reduced unemployment rates! We all know that it is because people are falling off the ranks - exhausted all benefits - and therefore the unemployment rate appears to be decreased.
This is putting so much false information out there - people that are employed are thinking that things are turning around while in fact they are actually getting worse!

Re: Pa March 2011 UE RATE 7.8%
Each state comes up with its own unemployment rate. The federal BLS doesn't determine the states' rates. Also none of the states consider whether or not people are getting or not getting UI benefits when calculating its unemployment rate. That's because there are many people (such as small business owners who went out of business & those who didn't make enough in a single quarter to qualify for UI) who never got UI in the first place & yet are just as unemployed as the jobless people who are getting or who used to get UI. UI simply isn't a factor when a state calculates its unemployment rate each month.
I'm sure that PA is indeed at 7.8% for the equivalent of U3. Western Pennsylvania has been experiencing an increase in jobs. But those jobs aren't good-paying jobs which is a big problem.
(The states don't report an equivalent for U6.)
It's true that homeless people aren't counted by the fed govt or by the states.....many 99ers are now homeless & are not counted anymore.

PA ISSUE ALERT
As some of you have already posted about.....PA is set to lose the 20 weeks of federal Extended Benefits at the beginning of June if the Legislature doesn't pass the Three Year Lookback law.
Sen. Tina Tartaglione is preparing a Senate bill tho there's no bill number yet.
http://www.senatortartaglione.com/
Her staff is circulating a Cosponsorship Petition among members of the legislature. Please contact your state senator & state representative asking them to cosponsor Sen. Tartaglione's bill to receive the 20 weeks of unemployment benefits from the federal government.
You can use this link to input your zip code & locate your legislators--
http://www.pasen.gov/cfdocs/legis/home/findyourlegislator/#zip
The legislature is on break till April 26th after which companion bills in the Senate & the Assembly will be introduced. Voters can contact them during the break.
Many Thanx to Tina Tartaglione!!

There's a bill (#994) to give PA the Three Year Lookback for EB--
http://www.legis.state.pa.us/CFDOCS/Legis/PN/Public/btCheck.cfm?txtType=PDF&sessYr=2011&sessInd=0&billBody=S&billTyp=B&billNbr=0994&pn=1069
The bill is stuck in the PA Senate Cte. on Labor & Industry--
http://www.legis.state.pa.us/cfdocs/cteeInfo/cteeInfo.cfm?cde=13&body=S
Time is of the essence. Without this bill PA will lose EB on May 14th.

Re: Pa March 2011 UE RATE 7.8%
Talked to my state senator's staff director. He didn't know about S-994. After I explained what the Three Year Lookback is, the May 14th cutoff, etc. he said he'd discuss it with the senator & that he's sure the senator will cosponsor. Will call him again tomorrow to get an update.

Re: Pa March 2011 UE RATE 7.8%
Yes it'll go down.....but this summer it'll climb back up again.....from now to Oct. 2012 the rate will continue to bounce up & down.....hovering around 9%. Till somebody does something to stop the outsourcing (not Trump--he LOVES outsourcing) Americans will continue to suffer from unreasonably high levels of unemployment & underemployment.mrgolf wrote:Philly, are you going to start a thread re predicting the unemployment rate for April. On April 21st.....New Jersey's Republican-led legislature & Republican Gov. Christie passed the Three Year Lookback law UNANIMOUSLY. If this law was good enuf for them.....then it should be good enuf for Gov. Corbett & Pennsylvania!!

Re: Pa March 2011 UE RATE 7.8%
Hey guys received this email from a Senator of PA today:
Ms. Dazed
I served as Mayor of the City of McKeesport for 7 years before being elected to the senate. I know how hard it is to be unemployed. My city lost the steel mills in the 1980's. I promise I will keep your comments in mind if the majority party allows this legislation to come to the floor for a vote. You are correct in contacting Republican members as they control the agenda completely.
I wish you success in your job search.
Sincerely,
Senator (took out)
This really sucks, bigtime...

Re: Pa March 2011 UE RATE 7.8%
Yepper Jame, it does really suck. But something is very wrong about unemployment in PA. There has been no mention of the 3-year look back in the papers or on the web. It is almost too silent. I suppose, since the unemployment cookie jar is empty, the republicians decided to come up with two new bills, one in the senate and one in the house both of which will end benefits, the money that was supposed to go to us, would be given to the state and use to CREATE JOBS again and refill the states drained unemployment funds. I doubt the will appropriate the funds correctly if these bills went through. I think the house one ends benefits June 30. So it is all smoke and mirrors. On a brighter note, I don't think this will pass in the Senator and even if it did, I doubt the president would sign it. Hope you are well Jame.
