Re: Wisconsin GOP Senators Pass Stand-Alone Anti-Union Bill Without Democrats Present
Article on why some Americans envy public workers getting living wages & benefits.
http://www.mainstreet.com/article/retirement/anger-brews-over-govt-workers-benefits?puc=outbrain&cm_ven=outbrain&obref=obnetwork
Strange that the reporter *admits* that 3/5 of Americans support public-sector workers & unions.....with only 2/5 opposing.....yet the reporter includes quite a few quotes from opponents & only 1 quote from a supporter.
Anyways the gist is that opponents have seen their private-sector pay & benefits (& jobs) slashed by the Outsourcing Corporations so now these people want public workers to get slashed too. Instead of saying 'bring back the good jobs & benefits for the private sector' which is what they should be saying.....they pull a 'crab in the bucket' move. The Corporations are *hoarding* $2 trillion in cash (to invest overseas) but instead of going after the Corporations who are responsible for the full-on assault against private-sector workers.....2/5 of Americans spend their time attacking public-sector workers.

The part with 2 of the Dem state senators just ended. It was great. They were saying the sleeping giant has awakened--many WI voters who didn't bother to vote in Nov. have now realized how important their votes are. Recall for Walker is in Jan. Recall for state senators is Apr. 4th.
WI 14 being applauded now!!

Jane--Gov Walker's office said he won't release the written version of the new anti-union law till Mar. 25th due to court challenges.
The site you linked has already posted clips from earlier so probably everyone in the world will be able to watch what's been happening at the WI capitol today anytime they want.

Thanks for pointing that out. I must be suffering from brain freeze. There's just something about being extremely cold that shuts down any brain function.

Re: Wisconsin GOP Senators Pass Stand-Alone Anti-Union Bill Without Democrats Present
Firefighters forced M&I Bank shut their doors, $600,000 cash has been withdrawn. This bank contributed to Walker's campaign. Smart move. It takes brains, money and the know how to get back Walker's job to kill collective bargaining. Also, strikes and vote recalls for the republicans' seats. Walker may lose his office in 2012. Interesting outcome.
I wonder if Walker and other republicans knew this would happen. Maybe the Koch brothers could advise Walker and the republicans on how to get out of this deep hole they dug and fell into. With all the money the Koch brothers have, it will not help them.
"Update: Walker signed the bill into law privately this morning.
Update: The Wisconsin Firefighters Union is collectively withdrawing its money from M&I Bank, whose executives and board donated a large majority to Walker's gubernatorial campaign. Thus far over $600,000 in cash has been withdrawn, forcing the bank shut its doors early yesterday. Union members continue to gather outside in protest.""
"• General strike. Union leaders are reportedly discussing a general strike, and the mood of the protesters, who stormed the Capitol upon word of the bill, echoes that. You could see some kind of near-term labor walkout, at least in Madison and possibly throughout the state."
"• Recalls. This will only energize progressives and labor to get the required signatures for recalls. All 8 Republicans eligible for recall voted to strip public employee unions of their rights, despite clear public opposition. Many of these Republicans, frankly, are going to recall as early as this summer, and if just three of them lose, the balance of power will switch to Democrats in the state Senate. There are also races for three open seats in the state Assembly coming up in May, so even more movement could occur."

Update: Surprise, surprise ... Wisconsin's Senate
Majority Leader, Republican Scott Fitzgerald, admits to Fox's Megyn
Kelly that the GOP's union-busting agenda is intended to hobble Obama's
re-election changes in 2012. "If we win this battle and the money is
not there under the auspices of the unions," says Fitzgerald in the
clip, "Certainly what you're going to find is President Obama is going
to have a much more difficult time getting election and winning the
state of Wisconsin." Watch.
The games they play and with people's lives and livelihood!

It makes my heart happy to see the uprising. I hope this sends a strong message not only to the Republican officials in WI but in other states where this is also being threatened.

Would you believe there is a street under all those people? There is a street that circles the capital building.

Majority leader says Democrats votes don't count
MADISON, Wis. (AP) —" The state Senate majority leader says votes by Democrats don't count in committee because they remain in contempt.
Republican Scott Fitzgerald says Democrats can attend hearings, listen to testimony, debate legislation and even cast a vote, but those votes won't be recorded."

As seen on a protest sign in Madison last Saturday:
"Republicans, you may not remember us, but we will recall you!"
