NY Rep Clark confirms 99ers were discussed at white house meeting
From the crew of 42:
"Unemployment insurance was discussed in the form of the “99ers” at yeseterday’s White House meeting with President Obama
and five members of the Congressional Black Caucus. Congresswoman
Yvette Clarke was one of the five members in the room. The 99ers are
those who, in most states, have already exhausted at least 99 weeks of
unemployment insurance.
New York
Representative Yvette Clark confirmed in specific terms that the plight
of the 99ers came up yesterday during the meeting with President Obama."

'Yes they did come up.' --Rep. Yvette Clark (NY)
That's almost as good as when (now former) WH Press Secretary Robert Gibbs tweeted 'and help.'
I still have no clue why the additional weeks weren't included in the 'framework deal' that the President made with McConnell in Dec.

I take it as a positive sign that the 99 ers were discussed-better than going weeks and weeks with no mention-like we don't exist.

REPORT OF MARCH 30, 2011, MEETING OF CBC & PRESIDENT OBAMA
http://www.crewof42.com/?p=5178
Cleaver Says Cost of 99ers Bill “Prohibitive” at Obama Meeting. In an exchange during their meeting last Wednesday with the President, CBC Chair Emanuel Cleaver called the cost of the 99ers bill (H.R. 589 sponsored by Rep. Barbara Lee of California) “prohibitive.”
In Rep. Cleaver’s words: “It was what I expected because my staff had done a lot of research on it. And we found that the cost of that program would be between $14and 20 billion dollars which is cost prohibitive. So there was no point in the President saying, ‘yeah I support it…’ When I laid it out I said to him, ‘Mr. President, I’m going to raise this, and this is one of our issues because this is one of our issues--it’s an issue among our members…’ I ended it by saying, however, I understand that the cost is enormous. He (President Obama) said (to Rob Nabors sitting on the sofa) ‘Rob how much is it?’ And Rob said, ‘between 14 and 20 billion’ and I said, ‘let’s move on.’ Because there was no point—that’s not going to happen,” recounted Cleaver.
……………
Unemployment extensions and the plight of the 99ers was one of five subjects brought up by the five members of the CBC meeting with the President on Wednesday. The members present were Reps. Emanuel Cleaver, G.K. Butterfield, Yvette Clarke, Andre Carson and Del. Donna Christensen of the Virgin islands.

Re: NY Rep Clark confirms 99ers were discussed at white house meeting
If Rep. Emanuel Cleaver *never* thought HR 589 had any chance of passing & becoming a law.....then why did he co-sponsor the bill??
Mike Thornton reported in Dec. that a preliminary scoring by the Congressional Budget Office said the HR6556 bill would cost $16 billion.
(HR6556 was the number of the exact same bill in last year's Congress.)
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-thornton/hr-6556-was-likely-the-la_b_799974.html
Rep. Cleaver can't claim he *didn't know* how much the bill costs. Everybody else in the entire world has known for quite some time.

It just disgusts me that the monetary cost of passing the bill is more important than the human cost of not. Also that no one besides us seems to care.

Re: NY Rep Clark confirms 99ers were discussed at white house meeting
This better not turn out to be just a publicity stunt on the part of the Congressional Black Caucus. If so.....it's been morally reprehensible of them to dangle false hope out there knowing full well they had no intention of fighting for the bill to pass. If so.....it's all been a dirty nasty evil *trick*. Congress can easily pay for this bill with some of the Scam Agricultural Subsidy money that's being illegally collected on lands that aren't even ever used for farming.Phillymg wrote:REPORT OF MARCH 30, 2011, MEETING OF CBC & PRESIDENT OBAMA

Well I for one am losing my hope.... I think Cleaver saying let's move on cause this is not going to happen says it all. And now getting reports that even the Dem's may not support HR 589 if it's paid for really crushes me...

$16 billion... So then there are in agreement there are at least 3,000,000 people no longer getting an income and that are no longer included in the actually unemployment rate.
As for hope, I never had it in this bill to begin with, so I don't have to worry about a crushing disappointment.

Re: NY Rep Clark confirms 99ers were discussed at white house meeting
There are *two* official unemployment rates.....
U3 includes everyone looking for work. 8.8% (14 million)
U6 includes those people *plus* the part-time workers & housewives, college students, ect who have stopped looking for work. 15.7% (10 million)
If someone has stopped getting unemployment compensation benefits they absolutely *ARE COUNTED* in one of these two official rates.
It's a myth that just because someone doesn't get UC they aren't counted. Remember that small business owners whose businesses failed never got UC in the first place.....& they are counted too.
However.....homeless people aren't counted in U3 or in U6. That's a huge problem since many 99ers have become homeless.

And there it is..... The reason the supposed Foreclosure Rescue was written as it was to dis-allow anyone who was on or had been on UI would not qualify for help. Just one more reason to deny any help to the jobless so that they would become homeless thus- Not Counted and the UI %rate falls.....

Re: NY Rep Clark confirms 99ers were discussed at white house meeting
Millions more Exhaustees are coming down the pike in April & May because of the three-year lookback rule. People are losing EB & Tier IV. Others are even losing Tier III. Yes there are '99ers' but now there are also '73ers' & '56ers' & etc. The CBC & Art Delaney & the rest of the mainsteam media seem to have no clue about this. A whole bunch of people are about to discover that they've been cut off even tho there still are not enough jobs. While I too am dejected QH.....I know that the fight has only just begun. The 99ers paved the way. Without the 99ers there wouldn't even be a bill.Quiethawk wrote:Well I for one am losing my hope.... Don't worry these same politicians won't have any problem voting themselves their next pay raise. Or sending billions to some foreign country. It is only when Americans need help that they seem to run out of money to pay for it. Otherwise they seem to have a money tree that pays for everything else.

Phillymg,
They figure they don't need Americans to work here anymore.
They have their foreign Visa Holders to take our place in the workforce.
And the cheap illegal alien labor.

""I heard that under the Republicans' budget plan the Pentagon gets a large *increase* in its funding.""
The increase is 2 percent in the version I have seen (defense)..
They are only against BIG government when its helping the disadvantaged...
When BIG government helps to install "law and order" in foriegn countries for the benefit of BIG business...then Republicans are all for that, and also tend to call it funny names (like patriotism)..
