About time! I filed a complaint in early January but have heard nothing yet.

Hopefully, those employers that are discriminating will be stopped dead in their tracks.
If anyone has run across ads that are discriminatory, you may want to send them to the EEOC or call them.

Wow I am shocked that they have called this meeting. We all know this has been going on for a long time, but it hasn't received that much attention and it usually takes the government years to get something like this set up. Okay I just have to remember that this is only a meeting to discuss, so it will takes years for them to do anything about it..... Okay over my shock now....

I had applied for a job online in the morning - very simple data entry position. In the afternoon, they had changed it and put in "2010 College Graduates Need Apply". I immediately sent an email to my two Senators, with both ads and the EEOC in Boston. I received the paperwork to file the complaint within 15 minutes of notifying them and had a case number by the end of the day.

Good on you!
Next time they'll change it to 2010 College Graduates encouraged to apply along with whatever descriptors they list for the applicant pool.

Thank god and its about time they started investigating this. I got to tell you tho in my area age discrimination is pretty blatant. I have a folder of job ads that state looking for "young and energetic candidates", guess they don't realize some of us still have an awful lot of energy into our fifties.
I did have a recruiter tell me last year, via email, if I had not worked at all in the past twelve months I would not be considered for the position-this recruiter was representing a major four year private university.

Who knows.....given that they're a day late & a dollar short.mrmarti wrote:what do you think will come out of that meeting?
The panel might just conclude that it's all the fault of the housing crisis b/c people whose homes are underwater can't sell them & move.....which of course will be a way of blaming the unemployed themselves by saying they shouldn't have bought homes they 'couldn't afford' (even tho they *could* afford them before the mass layoffs arrived).....& which is a lie anyways since even if every single jobless person moved there still wouldn't be enough jobs for millions & millions of the unemployed.
The panel might also lay the blame at the fictional 'retraining needed' bs.....despite the fact that millions of older unemployed are *highly trained* & *highly skilled*.....but no one wants to hire us b/c (1) employers/managers think we'll resent the low pay more than younger workers & (2) they know we'll have intelligent opinions & prefer hiring younger inexperienced workers even if it harms their companies' profits just so they can feel like admired big shots all day long at work.
The panel will likely give a serious nod to the *LIE* that laid-off workers were unproductive losers undeserving of jobs in the first place.....what that evil monster economics professor Tyler Cohen has called 'zero marginal product workers'.....ignoring that entire factories, plants, & business campuses were closed & the jobs sent overseas.
No way will they get down to the *TRUTH* that
--Employers are *resentful* about paying unemployment taxes & see anyone who's been out of work as a leech.
--Employers/managers want adoring young fans not proven productive older workers.
--THERE AREN'T ENOUGH JOBS because 15 million jobs have been offshored/outsourced.
K I done ranting now.
