Fla. Gov. Scott signs welfare drug testing bill
"TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- People applying for welfare benefits must pay for drug testing under a bill Gov. Rick Scott signed into law Tuesday.
If they pass, they'll be reimbursed for the cost of the test. If they don't, they won't receive temporary government assistance. Scott signed the bill in Panama City along with another measure that bans the designer drug MDPV, which is sold as bath salts."

Re: Fla. Gov. Scott signs welfare drug testing bill
Seems like that is against the constitution. You have the right not to incriminate yourself.
Congress collects welfare in the form of...perks...such as...
$400.00 haircuts
Travel
Dry clening
health insurance
pensions
meals...( a.k.a...food stamps)
free parking...for life
golf
etc. etc.etc....
Drug test Congress after one of their golf outings.
What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

Re: Fla. Gov. Scott signs welfare drug testing bill
Florida is not the only state with drug testing. This is horrible.
May 17, 2011
BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The Louisiana House has voted to approve a Metairie lawmaker's bill to require drug testing of welfare recipients who get cash benefits.
Republican John LaBruzzo says the bill would help people to get jobs, since many employers require drug tests.
The bill received the support of 65 lawmakers, over half of the chamber. The bill also gained co-authors, bringing the total to six, but not before prompting a heated debate.
Several lawmakers said a similar bill passed in Michigan was overturned by the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which does not control courts in Louisiana.
Others argued the bill unfairly assumed that people receiving welfare take drugs. Rep. Regina Barrow, D-Baton Rouge, said former Metairie Rep. and longtime Klu Klux Klan leader David Duke introduced a similar bill.

They are doing this to housing project residents in Chicago and I have to agree. Many of those in the projects are doing drugs (usually on taxpayer dime) so I have no problem checking them.
General welfare? possibly if they are long term welfare recipients. Otherwise, no.

I'm appalled by this. If you aren't and the dignity and rights of others mean nothing to you, I'm appalled by that too.

Yes! Test all of our elected officials. I am willing to bet that quite a few would not pass if they were required TODAY to take a random drug test.

I like this idea. We should test everyone who lives on taxpayers dime. Politicians are the biggest welfare freeloaders.
Regarding those on welfare, most of those I knew who were lifelong welfare users were in fact on drugs. My ex best friend was selling her food stamps to buy crack and I reported her. I would do it again. She actually thanked her for saving her life because it forced her to get a job. These people are different than those who fall in between the cracks and need it, like now.

Yes I agree-all elected officials should be tested for drugs, legal and illegal. And, while at it, test them for alcohol and tobacco use as well, like many employers are doing pre-employment and post-employment and randomly. If they are on a witch hunt, they can start with themselves!

Employers are testing for tobacco now too? I don't smoke but that is scary.

TRW Automotive here in Michigan does! Was rejected in a Phone Interview awhile back because I enjoy a Cigar now and then. I'm sure other companies are doing the same.

They asked you if you smoke? That is wrong. Then again I'm getting asked how old I am, if I have kids, and many more questions.
