I can't believe that companies actually adopt this as a screening technique. People were let go not because of poor job performance but mostly due to a bad economy. I think our governement needs to make this type of discrimination illegal and the EEOC needs to monitor this closely.

Pissed me off too, especially as an older worker whose prospects for employment seem to be dwindling by the day.

What we need at this point is a HUGE INCENTIVE to hire the unemployed that have been without work for 2 years or more. If the hiree is still with the company 1 year after being hired, then another incentive is awarded.

At some point and time, the Federal Government is going to have to help this portion of the displaced American society because no one else will.

Hey Pugs
The eeoc is at least finally aware of the problem and recently had a meeting to discuss it. This was posted in another thread:

This really is pissing me off......Just because your job was lost through no fault of your own.....you are being penialized.....I did not loose my job through a bad job performance.....I lost my job because the economy was bad and the company closed.....but now I am being penialized because I have been out of work for over 2 years......and there is a big gap in my employment because no one wants to give me a chance......just like a recruiter told me yesterday......don't call them they will call me if they have something that matches my background....really now.....guess they won't be calling me back again.....This is truly ridiculous.....that I have to edure such blatant discrimination......This should be illegal......

The government doesn't know what the word 'illegal' means, unless there's something in it for them. Otherwise, they don't care.
