Looking for work? 3 million jobs are available
The Labor Department reported that there were 3.1 million job openings
in February, up from 352,000 from January and 570,000 from year-earlier
levels. It was the largest number of available positions since September
2008.
With fewer people unemployed in recent months, there are only 4.4
unemployed job seekers for every opening, an improvement from the ratio
of 5.1 jobless for every opening in January.

I am so sick of these numbers that they pull out of their hats!
Now it is 4.4 to 1!
What about the people that have exhausted their benefits and therefore are no longer in the system?

Re: Looking for work? 3 million jobs are available
I'm starting to see more job openings, however so many are jobs like McDonalds and Best Buy. To me those jobs would just be (hopefully) temp because people like me shouldn't be working them. That is assuming they call me for an interview and most of the time they reject me with the answer "you'd just quit anyway".

Not enough jobs around here to tell how many applicants there are for each job. I know in January a local elementary school was hiring a janitor and had 360 applicants-in this rural area!

We all know that these figures are BS. There are way more applicants that there 4.4 ratio. It is more like 300 applicants for one job opening. So I don't know where there fuzzy math totals are coming from but it is total BS.

That 4.4/1 ratio of job seekers to jobs follows U3 which is at 8.8%. However the ratio of job seekers to jobs that follows U6 (15.7%) is around 6.9/1. Just like U3 & U6.....I do not believe that these ratios are being excessively manipulated today under President Obama any more or less than they were manipulated in past decades since the fed govt began keeping such records.

There are many reason that individual employers receive tons of job applications for positions these days (more than the official ratios) such as.....
--Electronic application process makes it easier for people to apply to many jobs.
--Current workers are underpaid and seeking to change jobs.
--Unemployed people desperate for work are sending hundreds of applications every month everywhere they can.

Then they need to change the system so that it accurately reflects what is happening in the real world.

Re: Looking for work? 3 million jobs are available
Every month for the past few years since the Recession began there have been roughly 3 million f/t job openings give or take a few thousand either way. Those jobs got filled over the course of a month & new ones opened up the next month.
An extra 352,000 more f/t jobs isn't going to do much to help when our economy has 25 million unemployed & underemployed Americans.....
