We need to target Obama and hard. JMHO.
This is just my opinion and please don't take this as me downing on Obama. I voted for the man, but he could do more.
http://www.crewof42.com/?p=5679
He's not focusing on this issue because he feels he has the black vote nailed? Yes unemployment is higher in communities of color, but unemployment is not a race issue, it's an impartial epidemic. He's focusing on immigration because he thinks he can win the Hispanic vote that way? Well, we need to make him SEE that our numbers are great and that no matter how destitute they allow us to come our votes still count the same. Faxes, emails, tweets, whatever we can do we need to do it. We need a 'laser beam' focus on our POTUS right now.

Re: We need to target Obama and hard. JMHO.
I completely agree with you, ciK- he has just sort of been languishng in the big house, and has only recently looked like he is doing something because of campaigning. We need to double down on our POTUS, the Dems and Independants are trying to hold back the flood all on their own, IMO.Thanks for the contact list- I don't Tweet, but I have already e-mailed, and will do so EVERY day!

You folks inspire me alot so I'll keep going too for HR589 even tho I've become convinced that the President is philosophically opposed to more weeks of UC.

Re: We need to target Obama and hard. JMHO.
I think our efforts should be on the Mainstream MEDIA and continued efforts towards those asses in Congress to come up with a Bill the Republican Tea Party is salivating for, and add HR 589 as a Amendment to that bill going forward. That is what THEY do and do quite well because THEY got the Bush Tax Cuts extended with no explanation of how it would be paid for AND with a price tag of almost $4 Trillion dollars over 10 years, if they didn't get that then they were not going to vote YEA for HR 4213 so the Democrats compromised (Caved-In). Those asses know the wheeling & dealing that goes on so whats happening now IMO is another delay delay to run right into another summer break just as with S3706. President Obama has too much on his plate and the 99ers are not on his radar! Remember Senator Schumer's famous words early last year to the 99ers to let HR 4213 passed and then they will take up a bill for the 99ers, he LIED.

Hi Philly,
Could you flesh that out a bit. I think that's a striking claim. I can definitely see why Republicans are philosophically opposed to more weeks of UC, but to say that about Pres. Obama suggests that he has departed from very fundamental policies of the Democratic Party as I understand them.

Re: We need to target Obama and hard. JMHO.
Dear Truth--
Imo Obama's been running to the 'center' (= 'the right') as fast & furious as he can. He's had 15 months to push for more weeks of UC since the 1st exhaustees began appearing. The big corporations don't want more UC weeks, so neither does he. It's similar to his position on maintaining the tax breaks rewarding the corporations that send jobs overseas. He believes that outsourcing is good for America because it's good for the Investor Class (the top 10% of Americans). He should have insisted on including more UC weeks in that Framework giving hundreds of billions of tax cuts to the wealthy.....but he simply doesn't care about laid-off middle aged Americans whose jobs have been shipped abroad.
---------------
If Obama won't push for more weeks.....then what *is* his plan for the longterm unemployed especially the middle aged??
Is he content to let pseudo-economists Tyler Cohen & Jayme Lembke refer to trained/skilled/educated/experienced laid-off American workers as 'zero-marginal' persons who got laid off because we're unproductive?? (A ridiculous assertion since many of us have found temp jobs over the time we've been laid off.....if we're so 'zero marginal' how come people keep hiring us?? Of course at a fraction of our former salaries since the new positions are classified as temp & p/t etc.) Will Obama continue to refuse to do anything to get employers to rehire middle aged workers??
All we hear about is need for 'retraining' & 'education'.....which is fine for younger people. Skilled middle aged people don't need retraining. We need JOBS. That said.....I'll soon start taking college nite classes because if I can't land a f/t job I need a backup plan of some kind. With all my training & experience I keep getting rejected for perm f/t jobs.
My uncle runs a small business in another state & he says that his company doesn't do it but alot of other companies do.....lay off workers over age 50 because the employers' share of the Healthcare premiums are too high. He & his wife are 62 & they pay $1,000 a month each for the 2 of them--not to mention the cost to cover their older employees. They don't give a rat's a$$ about 'govt regulations'.....they say it's the Healthcare premiums killing their small business. They're looking forward to 2014 when the Healthcare law takes full effect.....praying the law will bring down their costs.....but 2014 is far away. Anyways what I'm saying is that 1 reason employers don't want to hire f/t perm employees who are middle aged is the fact that the Health Insurance Companies skyrocket their rates as people grow older. Rates go up after someone is 50, increase again at 55, again at 60, etc. Small businesses need a break *now* in their outrageously high Healthcare rates. They can't wait till 2014.
That's just one small example of something else Obama could push for if he has any interest whatsoever in decreasing the longterm unemployment rate for middle aged Americans.

Re: We need to target Obama and hard. JMHO.
The US President isnt a dictator !
OBama has no control get off his ass the issue is the Republican Controlled House of Reps. Again people dont understand how the government works.Things have to get threw Congress before the president can sign them. Its that simple!Unlike the repulicans that create bills that have no chance to pass.Obama avoids that crap, he is aware that the Repulican House will not PAss anything related to extending Unemployment benefits. We all just saw the Repulican "Jobs Act" they are trying to stop whats already being given, why would they support more WAKE UP PEOPLE! Add to that the US government would have to borrow money from China to do it. The US government already borrows 40 cents for every dollar they spend. People get more silly daily. It makes me laugh! The guy that actually gave us healthcare is now responsible, because it wasnt addressed 20 years ago when it should have been. What power would he use to make all this stuff happen?

Sorry P72, I don't think that there is fair play here. As i posted... and damn it let's stop playing "Washington Post"...
rst of all, no disrespect to the previous statements.
Just mine.
What the hell is revolving around 14 weeks of $$$ going to do for us
other than to say that was all we spiraled around. For god's sake, this
is stupid money except for the fact that it would mean dearly the most
"relief" we have from our debtors. We all know this and more.
Give us our money!
I'll
say this once more. The people of this forum and similar forums just
want to know - in my opinion by now Barbara Lee, President Obama - are
we basketballs to bounce around or real people with real issues.
Damn it!
Again
- you politicians are not being fair. Just tell the damn truth and
don't let those that are suffering have some false hope, damn it!
President Obama - I can't believe this bullshit. You know, you know!
Lee - You are playing with lives, stop playing I have a secret and can't tell it like it is.
And
I mean honesty at this point. I am a US citizen and I want to know
after all these ridiculous months why the President has to be advised of
the 589 and the 99ers involved.
Nothing else to say. Damn it. This is just stupid. President and Senator, we want it simple and we want NOW! Please don't play me.

Maybe the same power he used to push that health care through? Many people have been 99ers for over a year? The Republicans have only controlled the house for what? Five months? Why doesn't he push for this like he does for immigration reform? Why doesn't he talk about it? Make it an issue he cares about? Why doesn't he say ANYTHING about it? I've seen him speak out on issues the right doesn't agree with before? Why not this one?
