Any updates on the requested meeting? We need to keep the pressure up on John Boehner, the Whie House, the media and Congress.
March 9, 2011
Media Contact: Joel Payne, (202) 225- 2661
Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-CA) and Congressman Bobby Scott (D-VA) sent a letter to Speaker John Boehner, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp requesting a meeting to discuss H.R. 589, a bill to extend emergency benefits to long-term unemployed workers. Representatives Lee and Scott introduced the legislation last month, and they want to meet with House Republican leadership to discuss options to address the costs of the bill. The legislation currently has 72 additional House co-sponsors.
H.R. 589 would provide 14 weeks of emergency unemployment benefits to workers who have exhausted all their benefits and are still unemployed. Many of these long-term unemployed workers are relying on this assistance to support their families, make ends meet and contribute to our economy.

These are the only things that I've heard. Nothing new or recent. I wonder if he has even read the letter yet.

Re: More H.R. 589 Discussion
Many days ago he said that he hadn't seen/read the letter.
I'm sure glad to see this question. I hope we can get back to business as "normal" without all these side issues.
I agree, WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?
I hope something magical is because quite honestly, by now, our good Senator
Lee should have voiced some concern over problems being encountered.
Otherwise I'm hoping she is indeed heads down on this issue with a most
promising outcome soon to come.
I'm very grateful for Senator Lee's fortitude and support, but I hope after this length of silence the news is good. Otherwise anything other than "good" is going to be like a KO punch psychologically for those of us who fear every tomorrow right now.

On the Crew of 42 site.....it looks like the CBC has been busy doing battle against opponents of foreclosure protections.....
They also had to tackle the chair of the Democratic Party who made some knuckleheaded remark that the democrats don't need the Congressional Black Caucus.

Has anyone contacted Senator Lee's office in the last few days? If so, would you please share your findings.
If not, maybe we should collectively ask Senator Lee what the status of her good intentions is.

The silence is deafening on the letter, the meeting, or any action on the bill.

There is an article on the Huffington Post web site by Arthur Delaney that Boehner and Cantor have agreed to meet with Lee and Scott to discuss the legislation. I do not know how to post this article here. Could someone check it out and do so????

I sent Weeper an email and asked him if he read the opening post and does he care. Probably won't do any good, he's proved he has no plan to help us.
