Thanks I am pretty sure you can sign even if your not from the mighty MO and to Gigi, Republicans have been getting on my nerves for a while now. I just think they could express their views without so much venom towards the less fortunate of this country...............well thats not all that bothers me about them but for now I will just stick with doing whatever I can do to help myself and everyone else that has become unemployed largely because of the policies of the previous administration.

Will do.
Have a question--
Employers in every state pay two unemployment taxes. They pay a state ue tax to cover the 1st 26 weeks. They also pay a federal ue tax to help cover EB regardless of whether or not the state accepts EB.
This filibustering clown justifies his actions on the basis that employers in his state will eventually have to pay a higher federal ue tax if Mo accepts EB. However MO employers will have to continue to pay the federal ue tax whether or not the state accepts EB.
If anything.....by not accepting EB.....MO would help employers in all 50 states not simply in MO. The effect would be spread across all of the states & any savings for only MO would be negligible. Also the anticipated rate hikes in federal ue tax rates have not been made & no one knows when they would be made.
Therefore the state senator's filibuster basically won't help MO employers now & would barely help MO employers sometime in the future. It's essentially pointless. Except to 'punish' the unemployed in MO & to give some cheap teapartier-type publicity to the state senator.

Signed, in support of the unemployed Missourians. I don't understand the faulty thinking of these senators, they are supposedly, public servants, yet they are acting in a way that will do harm to their fellow citizens.

Can I copy this and send it to Senator Lembke. He doesn't answer any of my emails but maybe this would make him think. It is just so well written.

Just got this in my inbox.
Dear Frank,
On April 2nd, Missouri could become the only state in the country to abruptly cut-off federally-paid unemployment insurance benefits to struggling out-of-work job-seekers.
That’s because four Missouri State Senators are holding up a bill that would continue federally-funded Extended Benefits (EB) for thousands of Missouri’s hardest-hit unemployed workers and their families.
As a result, nearly ten thousand Missourians will have those benefits cut-off prematurely next week. Another 56,000 face having those benefits cut-off shortly.

http://www.nelp.org/page/m/6cf70d6/7158307b/33fbe713/6f6c9fcd/1661711556/VEsH/
The bill, which is a simple technical adjustment to state law to allow the Extended Benefits to continue through 2011, has already passed the state House. Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon supports it and wants the state Senate to pass it so that he can sign it. A clear majority in both parties and the Senate’s leaders support it and want to bring it to a vote.
But Senators Jim Lembke, Brian Nieves, Will Kraus and Rob Schaaf have kept the Senate from voting on it for weeks – endangering this crucial aid for thousands upon thousands of Missouri’s struggling job-seekers.
And why are they blocking the Extended Benefits bill? They say they want to make a point against federal spending. So they have picked on these federally-funded unemployment benefits to lodge their protest – for what amounts to 0.002 percent (that’s two one-thousandths of a percent) of the federal budget.
These are benefits that go to Missourians, who spend them on family necessities in local Missouri businesses. Holding up and cutting off these benefits will hurt Missouri workers and their families, and hurt Missouri businesses.

Eleven other states that have had to pass the EB renewal legislation to keep these benefits going have done so without any interruption. Unless the EB bill is passed, Missouri will become the only state to cut off these benefits to its own struggling job-seekers.

They and State Senate leaders need to take all necessary steps to ensure that the Senate gets to vote on the Extended Benefits bill this week.

The writer is misinformed, all other states have not passed the legislation to accept the feds money for EB. Louisiana, Mississippi and a couple of other states flat out refused.
It is important that we email and try to keep the same from happening to Missouri, I just wanted to point out that it has already happened in other states. I live in a state that refused the money.

Re: Please sign to support Missourians who are being abruptly taken off Extended UE due to a Filibuster to refuse to accept federal funds that have been approved.
need2b I am frustrated with the feds for not seeing that this could happen and had a back up plan like they disperse the funds. I know this is a logistical problem but if they disperse social security then they can probably figure it out. It should have been automatic for all states that have high unemployment. Instead it got caught up in another political loop hole.
Thanks to everyone. I think this has fired up quite a few people in MO. I am actually going to the offices of my 2 state legislative representatives Michelle Kratky and Joseph Keaveny today inbetween spending my day at the MO career center. I think showing up in person and putting a face to this. I am dressing professionaly, and putting my best foot forward. I am a college graduate and I just want them to see that unemployment has effected people from all walks of life and that I am not a bum who just wants to sit at home eat bon bons and watch soap operas. Are soap operas even on TV anymore?
