Post by stcfarms Sun Jun 12, 2011 8:44 pm

My friend Hanque Victor is a 99er with a beautiful voice. I have convinced him to get back into music and put him in contact with my girlfriend's nephew who is in the music business. He is writing some songs about the 99ers to let people know how hard unemployment is on people. You can hear his music at http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/Victormusic/ enjoy...

Glad to do it, someone has to write and sing the songs of this depression and no one wants to hear me sing...

Is the music going to get us jobs?

Sorry, over discussing and feeling sorry for myself - ready for some solutions to homelessness and hunger.

Time for us over fifties to either help ourselves and figure out ways to help others in the same predicament.

Does music pay the bills?

Nope...

Music is just one way to bring attention to the problem of unemployment. Hanque is currently writing songs of his experience of being a 99er, feel free to contact him through the group http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/Victormusic/ if you have a story that you believe needs to be told.

I am doing just what you suggested, I am trying to get my friend a job. I do hire Jacks of all trades if they are good enough, and most of the good ones are well over 50.

Music does not pay the bills except for a rare few but Hanque is a good Jack of all trades as well. I just figured that a voice as good as his might bring some happiness to others. Sure, I could hire him, but I would rather hear him sing.

99er music Empty Jobs for the rest of us?

Post by Angela J Shirley Tue Jun 14, 2011 5:23 pm

Hi stcfarms:

Thanks for explaining the reason for your post and good luck to your friend.

You say you hire "Jacks of all trades" - you have any jobs for the rest of us?
Question

The community where I live is comprised of millionaire farmers, when my people go out to a farm they are prepared to work on anything from a combine in a field to wiring a 440 VAC three phase panel. They carry their own torches, welders, generators and any other tool they may possibly need. Even the apprentices that we hire would be considered a journeyman Jack of all trades in a city and have extensive tool collections of their own. We have three young apprentices that grew up on these farms and already have a good idea of what to expect.

There is a way to create jobs in your local area http://red-coral.net/UXA_Article.html These folks survived the last great depression by uniting locally to use barter, it worked very well. Each UXA would have to tailor their operation to local conditions. The more people that you can get to join your UXA the more jobs that you will be able to do. Here are three ideas that may be useful to create jobs, they are all open source so anyone can build them.

Hi stcfarms:

Although I am not into farming, office support - your info gave me some ideas and I am sure there are other job hunters out there who are in farming and can use the info. I love the fact that you have found something that is working and sharing this info. This is what is going to help us all in this recession.

Heading offline now after spending way too much time checking out the over 50 job sites listed on this site Sleep

Perhaps small businesses that cannot afford an office staff might benefit from a group of office workers that work for many small companies. That is how the Jack of all trades business works, when people do not need us they do not have to pay us. When they do need us they pay a premium but still save money in the long run. If you get a reputation for good service you will always have work.

You are welcome. When my girlfriend started her printshop 15 years ago she sent me around to other print shops to check out their prices and equipment while she figured out what she would need to do to compete in the local market. To save money I renovated an old barber shop and she put the print shop there. Starting up a business is hard but if you research everything in detail you stand a good chance of making it work.

Yes she does, oddly enough print shops do better in hard times. Companies have to advertise more and resumes are hot right now.
