Are Jobless Benefits Keeping the Unemployed Complacent and Invisible
Wait until more unemployed stop receiving their benefits! Maybe we will see protesting and social unrest?
"Over the coming months, millions more unemployed Americans will start losing benefits, partly because states are cutting back the number of weeks people can receive checks, and partly because many people have been unemployed so long that they’re no longer eligible for even the maximum duration of benefits.
If people like Mr. Dodds are right, this mass benefit exhaustion may become a tipping point into greater political organization and radicalization of the unemployed, along the lines of what was seen during the Great Depression. As the bread and circuses run out, workers become more desperate, and desperation may lead to more political instability."

Re: Are Jobless Benefits Keeping the Unemployed Complacent and Invisible
Many others and I have exhausted our benefits since March, 2010. Where are the jobs, very few.
18,000 jobs were created last month, which most could be temporary or part time. Since there are greater then 18 million unemployed. That means if your unemployed last month you had a greater than one thousand to one of obtaining a job. What kind of job who knows?
Most states say that you can collect Unemployment if you didn't find a suitable job. If your a skilled and educated a McDonalds type job is unsuitable, so are many retail jobs. That is the law.
It used to be that many laid off workers were recalled to their prior jobs, union or not. I have had many contract assignments. No chance to be recalled. In fact one was a long time employer of ten years with a plant closing. I worked three different assignments in three different divisions. Something is wrong with this picture. This is GE. GE did not pay any taxes last year!
So instead of pointing at the long term unemployed. The shame should be put on to the employers that continue to rape this country of our jobs. That is right RAPE!
I think there is going to be riots either way after August 2. I say let it happen! Maybe the so called rich CEOs will be terminated too. That will be a good thing. It is better to happen then in December when the extensions end. Lets start making it very uncomfortable on the rich in this country. Remember we only have to worry about FEAR itself.
The fear should be what were going to to do against the rich, not the other way around. There are many more of us then them. Bring it ON!
I am not for violence, but you can't wait forever when your totally hungry and starving.
I am not a position of starving, but I am sick and tired of society pushing us around. Raise some HELL and let the rich be come uncomfortable for one instead of being in their cushy houses, boats, yatches, country clubs and long vacations to everywhere.
They pick on the unemployed with cheap PCs with internet and cable TV. What else do we have? Were just waiting for some day they pull the plug and kick us out of houses that we put plenty of money into.
All because the rich Wall Street Bankers had to take risks? Who said we could never be a Great Depression. Where are the economists today saying this!
