One reactor already released radioactive steam. Wolf Blitzer says another reactor may have to do the same in a few minutes. In addition a couple of other reactors are also having cooling problems. Japanese ambassador told Blitzer there's no meltdown but other sources are saying one of the reactors may melt down. This is the second-worst nuclear disaster in history & if there's a meltdown it will become #1.

website that tracks earthquakes all over the world - take a look at it and be astonished at the number that Japan has had.

I'm sickened by this - even today there was a 6.2. Three reactors are at emergency status. Many people can only get either soda or beer - no water. 20,000 people are stranded in airports and the flights aren't going. There's no getting out of there.

Re: Japan Earthquake: 8.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits, 19-Feet High Tsunami Feared
You would think with all that earthquake activity near the east coast of Honshu, Japan, they should have been prepared for the big one. At least inform the citizens what is happening. I know Japan is noted for earthquakes but that was much too frequent.
Not to change the subject but we should be aware that we also have earthquakes of our own. Not only in California but the midwest and east coast. I have heard some doom sayers have predicted that we are in for a very big quake in the midwest. I felt one in Chicago many years ago, the fault runs in the middle of Chicago downtown under LaSalle Street. It is not fun working on the top floor in a downtown building during an earthquake. I truly understand what the Japanese experienced. My heart goes out to them.
"New Madrid Fault Line
The New Madrid Fault Line has records of over 4000 earthquake reports since 1974. This fault line is also called the New Madrid Seismic Zone and has potential to devastate the states of Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Mississippi. The biggest part of the New Madrid Fault Line sits in Missouri."

I know I keep thinking of the babies, too. Disasters are also very hard on the elderly. The thought of all that suffering makes me incredibly sad.

Me too. I saw a picture today with a child - he looked about 3-4. He was in front of a healthcare worker who was waving a wand checking him for radiation. He had a winter coat on and he looked horrified.
I wanted to cry.
I wanted to cry.

Re: Japan Earthquake: 8.9 Magnitude Earthquake Hits, 19-Feet High Tsunami Feared
I cried a lot yesterday. Saw a iphone report from a young mother with an infant. They were near one of the reactors and the mothers face was sheer terror. She was really trying to hold herself together long enough to get her message out to family-I just lost it.

Over 1500 listed as dead right now. Death toll expected to be over 10,000. Horrible but the tsunami in the Thailand, S.E. Asia area killed over 250,000

After Japanese & US spokesmen insisting all day that there's very little to worry about the problems with the reactors in Fukushima.....smoke is now coming from Reactor #1 & there's just been a hydrogen explosion in Reactor #3.
